Stupid comment to say right now. I think it hurts both Dems with him saying that

1. absolutely
the economic crisis is at the top of everyone's list of worries. "Slow down the economy" is the wrong message to send to people whose hours have been cut back or whose jobs have been outsourced. And anyway, no one is buying things right now, so that slow down will happen all by itself I think.

2. Slowing down the economy will help stop inflation.....
and I'm all for stopping inflation because it is killing me money wise. Smart thing Bill is saying.

4. I lived through the hyper-inflation of the late 70's/early 80's
Anyone who thinks that inflation is not a huge problem has never experienced it:

Inflation rates in:
1979 11.3%
1980 13.5
1981 10.3

7. Whether you believe its true or not. Its not a good thing to say
It can be distorted as "Democrats want to slow down the economy". Which is what the Repukes have jumped all over. Expect them to hit the stump today with it

3. I guess the Repugs want to drive over the cliff at full throttle.
Might as well get it over with.

The repukes are going to bash the Dems no matter what they do or say, although I do agree that the wording in this case was poor.

6. Bill Clinton didn't say that
This is a blatant example of media bias and I'm very upset by it. Read the article for yourself here:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/01/bill-we-just-ha.html

Bill Clinton's exact quote is this:

"And maybe America, and Europe, and Japan, and Canada -- the rich counties -- would say, 'OK, we just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.' We could do that. But if we did that, you know as well as I do, China and India and Indonesia and Vietnam and Mexico and Brazil and the Ukraine, and all the other countries will never agree to stay poor to save the planet for our grandchildren. The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world's fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work."

If, after reading it, you agree that Bill Clinton has been misquoted, complain about it here as I did:
