Washington Post: "A Clinton Corner In Obama's Home Town"

A Clinton Corner in Obama's Home Town
By Kari Lydersen

CHICAGO -- Chicago may be Barack Obama's backyard, but at a Latino Educators for Hillary dinner in the mostly Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen Wednesday night, attendees had harsh words for him.

"Arrogant," "impulsive," "hypocritical," and "anti-immigrant" just were some of the insults lobbed at Obama at an event hosted by Danny Solis, the local Pilsen alderman and, yes, brother of Hillary Clinton campaign manager Patty Solis Doyle. (Solis himself described Obama as "Okay, but not ready yet.")

Both the Clinton and Obama camps are vying hard for the Latino vote in the week leading up to Super Tuesday. And both candidates also have Chicago connections that make Illinois, with one of the country's larger Latino populations (5 percent of the electorate) and a long history of powerful Latino politicians in Chicago, look like fertile ground.

3. Pilsen: home of the Bombon Bakery
If you come to Chicago, you must go there (or to their cafe on Ashland Ave.) to have their tres leches cake or one of their other beautiful pastries. I never knew Mexican sweets could be so good.

But the residents of Pilsen should remember that it was Barack Obama who came to rally them on the big immigration march that began in Union Park and marched-500,000 strong--to Grant Park. I was there and heard him.

Why is the word "arrogant" brandied about quite often in reference to the IL senator? I've heard it recently at a PBS round table of reporters. One of them mentioned that some senators view Obama as "lazy, ill prepared and a tad arrogant". They were mainly referring to his performance in committees. I have also been reading it lately in newspapers, nothing major but it has been used frequently nonetheless.

Months ago, when Obama started gaining more visibility, I studied him with curiosity and came away with that same impression: the man has a certain cockiness and arrogance about him that, to me at least, it's off putting.

6. I've heard the word arrogant
used to describe BO so many times lately, and IMO it suits him well.
