****ABC debunked/nuanced****Fact Check****Hillary And Wal-Mart****
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 09:56 AM by agdlp
ABC’s Good Morning America ran a piece on Hillary Clinton and Wal-Mart. Both the fact that Hillary Clinton served on Wal-Mart’s Board and Hillary’s criticism of Wal-Mart are well known and well established.
http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:qwd8wV9_IGEJ:www.latimes.com/news/printedition/front/la-na-hillary19may19,1,2186022.story+%22has+made+clear+that+Wal-Mart+has+an+obligation+to+provide+good+health+benefits+and+good+wages+to+its+workers%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=us&client=firefox-a

1. Hillary is a strong supporter of organized labor and enjoys strong support from organized labor. The reason Senator Clinton has been endorsed by unions representing six million Americans is because she knows that they have been essential to our nation's success.

2.Throughout her career, Senator Clinton has stood with all workers as they exercised their right to organize and bargain collectively. Hillary has said that if elected President, she will sign the Employee Free Choice Act, legislation she sponsored in the Senate, into law so that we can create an atmosphere where workers can choose to form a union free from employer coercion and bargain collectively. Hillary has actively opposed anti-collective bargaining provisions contained in the Department of Defense's proposed National Security Personnel System and has voted in favor of collective bargaining rights for TSA screeners.

3.As the first women on Wal-Mart’s board, Hillary worked hard to make Wal-Mart a better corporate citizen.

4. Hillary strongly supports Wal-mart workers right to organize and has said so throughout the campaign.

5. At no time was Hillary aware that Wal-mart was using child labor or selling foreign-made goods under Made in America banners.
Statement from Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.

8. To be fair, here...
Hillary was on the Wal-Mart board fifteen years ago, back when she was First Lady of Arkansas (and since Wal-Mart is an Arkansas company, this isn't terribly surprising). What's more, she was on the Board back when Mr. Sam was still in control of the company. And while he was a cut-throat businessman to be sure, many of the worst abuses of the Wal-Mart era began after he was no longer controlling the company.

and I suspected it was to hide a 'source' if there was one at all.

Thanks for identifying where this is coming from.

23. Obama’s wife Michelle go 51,200 for board meetings on TreeHouseFoods, Wal-Mart vendor
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 10:17 AM by agdlp
But thats no issue right ?

He criticized Clinton for working for Walmart 15 years ago, yet HIS WIFE recently worked with the same firm!

Walmart was the MAJOR company Michelle Obama's company, Treehouse Foods Inc. did business with.

26. Sorry, we've been over pickle-gate many times.
And it was pretty much decided that sitting on the Board of Directors of Wal-Mart makes one much more culpable than does selling them pickles.

Nice try though.

17. The only qualifications to run for president are citizenship and age.
However, if you want to pretend to be pro-union, bring more to the table than empty bullshit.

Oh wait, I left them up someones ass one day when they crossed the line.

Why does Hillary have to walk a picket line for her to be a Union supporter?

Ever belonged to a Union? Do you like gladiator movies??

14. So in 2007, Hillary talked about unions. Back in 1990 - not so much.
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 09:55 AM by Apollo11
An ABC News analysis of the videotapes of at least four stockholder meetings where Clinton appeared shows she never once rose to defend the role of American labor unions.

The tapes, broadcast this morning on "Good Morning America," were provided to ABC News from the archives of Flagler Productions, a Lenexa, Kan., company hired by Wal-Mart to record its meetings and events.

A former board member told ABCNews.com that he had no recollection of Clinton defending unions during more than 20 board meetings held in private.

The tapes show Clinton in the role of a loyal company woman. "I'm always proud of Wal-Mart and what we do and the way we do it better than anybody else," she said at a June 1990 stockholders meeting.

22. Sorry, but fellow board members (and now videotapes) tell a very different story...
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 10:14 AM by Kristi1696
Just because she's trying to rewrite her history with Wal-Mart does not change the truth.

Several of her board members have been directly quoted as saying that she was presented with Wal-Marts union-busting plans...and said nothing. Not even an informal protest.

She can say that she's pro-union all she wants, but her history at Wal-Mart and her association with Mark Penn tell a very different story.

Here's a thread I started a while ago on that very topic:
