Why?
Okay, I admit it, I'm still in denial on Edwards dropping out. I've read the "suspending my campaign" speech 2 or 3 times, read some of the piles of ensuing discussion, but I still don't get it: WHY? He never states a "public" reason why he quit, let alone leaving us to wonder what is the REAL reason he quit, a few days before Super Tuesday, for Pete's sake!

Somebody help me here.

WHY DID HE DROP OUT?

1. Did you see the post a few down speculating about his wife's health?
I deeply suspect some kind of external pressure like that. He wasn't talking like he was going to quit.

2. I have zero enthusiasm now. I just don't support either hillary or obama.

Let the corporations keep funding them, neither will get anything from me.

8. I was going over it in my head and i came up with, okay if i don't support
either of them. What the hell do i do. It's wrong not to vote. With kerry, i didn't want him but getting rid of bush was so important i was able to manufacture enthusiasm.

But, that all failed and bush was reelected. I'm down to who would appoint the better people for the jobs that will need to be filled.

And, then there's the thought of mccinsane being president following bush. Extremely scary.

6. Despite his charismatic appeal and "populist" position
his record isn't in any way consistent with his stance. I think the voting public saw right through this, though he certainly was able to appeal to a certain part of the population that is hungry for this message.

7. What's to explain?
He saw the results of the primaries that have been held, and he can read the polls as well as anyone.

He was at about 15%. You can't win with numbers like that.

9. Are you saying he should have not even run, if he wasn't sure to win?

10. Huh?
Where'd I say that?

I said he did the hard political calculation of deciding whether spending the money going through Super Tuesday was worth it, given his past performance and his polling numbers. He decided not. That's not saying he never should've run.
