1. Actually, let me rephrase that...
Looks like President McCain regardless of Edwards being in or out of the race.

and of the 4, Huckabee was the only one to nail that last stupid question.

11. I 3rd that - I love John Edwards but I honor his decision to drop out .. sadly
This is starting to appear to be another one of the Democratic Party's classic self-immolation acts.

19. What makes you think McCain is the strongest? he lost to Ron Paul in Nevada!
Both Hillary and Obama had more votes than him in NH! Hilary had more votes than him in Fla - in spite of the second class citizen status the dem primary had

22. He won't be running against Ron Paul in the general
Check the polls. McCain beats both Clinton and Obama head-to-head. Before they stopped polling on Edwards, he was beating every Rethug.

7. You're right. I quit.
Even though about half of those "averaged" polls have Clinton and Obama ahead of McCain, said pro-Dem polls being the more reliable of the collection...

...and even though those same national polls had Rudy leading every other GOP candidate by wide margins less than a month ago...

...and even though none of those numbers say jack-diddly-poo about who's got the state-by-state Electoral College polling lead (i.e. who's up in CA, NY, NJ, NE, NM, WI, PA, etc?)...

...whatever, you're right, I quit.

McCain '08!

It's guaranteed!

...or something.

8. Clinton or Obama will crush McCain!
I honestly believe that Obama would achieve a larger margin in the landslide, but either of them will win.

I think Obama would get a groundswell of support after he's nominated, and excite a lot of younger folks to register and vote. The momentum will be unstoppable.

21. I will support either Hillary OR Obama.
That being said, an Obama candidacy changes the map and the "solid South" may not be so solid for the Republicans.

Just saying. I agree with Jimmy Carter's assessment that an Obama nomination will put the South in play for the Democrats in November.

9. I know its late, but
Those polls say this:
McCain vs. Clinton - 5 for McCain, 2 for Clinton
McCain vs. Obama - 4 for McCain, 2 for Obama, 1 tie
Romney vs. Clinton - 6 for Clinton
Romney vs. Obama - 6 for Obama
McCain vs. Edwards - 3 for McCain, 1 for Edwards
Romney vs. Edwards - 4 for Edwards

So I think the title of this OP is not really reflective of the link posted.

But it does look like we need to get to work and start working for our two remaining candidates to beat McCain, should he be the nominee.

different surveys show is that the differences between McCain and the Democrats are well within the margin of error -- too close to call.

Don't worry about the polls yet. So much depends on how the polling companies WEIGHT their samples. Since the percentage of people who identify as Republicans is dropping, the pollsters are always playing catch-up. When they think they don't have "enough" Republicans in their survey, they weight their votes more heavily. So the pollsters end up skewing the results in the Republicans favor.

I wouldn't trust any poll unless I could see all the information about how they drew their sample and how they weighted the results.
