One More Howl! The Great Unwashed for Edwards!
That’s right. We the populist riff-raff of America has had our moment in the Green Gods Glorious Sun, dancing the dance of the people. We, the riff-raff, the Great Unwashed, have we danced our last dance? Is there no more? I’m shouting out tonight to all of you rich spirited bastards!
This is my howl! This is my scream at that big bright moon that swings with the stars of fate, fortune and the great unknown. That moon is swinging tonight for one reason, that moon swings this night for one man and one cause. That moon hangs for our cause, and it hangs for John Edwards. Join me in my cry!

Damn people. I need to hear you howl! Let the powers that be hear the screams, the cries, the desperation of us, the Great Unwashed for Edwards. Let their double paned windows shake with a screeching fury they have never known.

They need to hear you for the 200,000 vets out there on their own. If you have a roof to sleep under tonight, you better damn well thank a vet for that, and I need to hear you yell.

The very foundations, the very center of the corporate masses of our opposition –yes opposition, that’s what you call your enemy- has got to shake tonight with a hard rain. We shout together, right in their fat, rich, squeaky clean ear, WHAT ABOUT THE 47 MILLION UNINSURED??? Can I hear you howl?

Can I hear you howl for the 37 million living in poverty every single day? Sleeping with worries, every single night? Can we tear down the wall around Washington, so their voice may be heard? Let me hear it. Let me have one more night of that sweet Progressive Poetry, It only comes from your voices. Only you can sing the songs. Let me hear you scream for the hampered, the hurt, the homeless. Let me hear you ask the poor what they need. They’ll tell you what they’ve learned if you only ask.

One more night people. One more primal scream together. Not for me, not for John Edwards, or his amazing family, but for those people out on the street. For the moms feeding kids cereal for dinner, just one bowl. For the man, who’s only known work all of his life, and now has none. For your mom and your dad. For all of us that see a better country.

I’m shouting to Old Crusoe. I need to hear his wise and wonderful words. I want to hear Nutmegger scream like a she’s never screamed. It’s not where we go people; it’s how we get there. I need to see SaraCat check in and smack some of the haters around. I need lisas sweet voice added to our cacophony of outrage. Where is CorpGovActivist? I’m quite certain he is insane, and knows words I’ve never even read. What are our Edwards Voices without him? And Yeal, and Catchawave, and Bobbolink –Bobbolink who always speaks for the least of us- and Two Americas –possibly the smartest person here, but he would never tell you that – and Inspired and Jsamual who post such great work for Edwards everywhere. We need all of your voices. The people need those voices. And Pamela, what work Pamela has done, she should know what a difference she’s made, and we all need to know, what a difference you have all made. Ninga, you might want to hold onto those rooms, we’ll need them for something, someday. And Pluck, you better fire up one of those old Studabakers, I’m on my way. Andy, let ‘er rip man, let me hear ya scream! Frogmarch, no YOU ROCK, and you always will in my book. Venable, and Waiting for hope, this journey is part of you, as you are part of us. No Name No Slogan, if you don’t make me laugh soon, I’m coming after you, and I do have a white coat.

This is my toast to you. MY rebels yell. Our voices together, will be heard. Howl with me one more time people. Shout the truth with the sweet pure voices of the Great Unwashed. One more time.

I’m proud to stand with you all. The riff-raff, the Edwards Democrats. Us, the Great Unwashed.

Thank you lame54

The howlers!

The riffraff paddy whackers?

The give the Corporations the bone and let us have the beef.<Or the veggie burger if that is your wish>

I'm aboard this Eden Express. And you're aboard too.

We are one beer short of a revolt and two swaggers shy of a knockdown, dragout of a fight to restore the country.

Let non-working dogs hang by their balls till they give us back our country.

Let the fat cats swim in the stanky drink till they hand over everything they have taken from the working class.

so he's still getting the vote.

The primary is where we vote for the platform despite what the smirking bobbleheads all say about electability.

Screw 'em. Edwards was the only one to make sense on health care so Edwards is getting my vote.

The man who refused to surrender and keep the good fight going even in spite of the opposition of the rich and powerful. A man of the people, a man of justice, a man of purpose! He was a man who, through his actions, was not one asking "Are the Gods on our side" but "Am I on the side of the Gods!"

Howl indeed, I stand with you all ragged and gloried!

Thanks, I needed that...

I had a great cry tonight, tears I didn't even know I had in me, for something deeper than I understand. Then I squared my shoulders and realized, I am an Edwards Democrat. I just *am*, even after today. And it's a fine thing indeed to be. It means I'm howling with my brothers and sisters, so we can give voice and song to those who need it.

Beautiful post, and one I'll remember. Thank you.

It's people like you, with words like those, that set the bar here at DU very high. Very high indeed.

We do it with our guitars, we do it with our pens, our voices, and our computers. Just screaming what we have to say.

42. Rage, rage against the dying of the light

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

54. they don't see us
They don't see us, they don't hear us. We get platitudes and lip service when they want to play to the cheap seats, but we don't count . They talk about a 'maybe' recession coming for their millionaire and billionaire friends - we've been in a full-fledged depression for years, but nobody cares. This is Southern Appalachia.

It's not our country, it's just the place we happen to be and we've no way out. We've no health care, no way to keep up with inflation, our jobs have gone to India and China. 3 of 5 people in this region qualifies for Medicaid and food stamps, but only 1 of 5 gets them because there's not enough to go around. Our children go to war because they've no hope to go to college. We hope they can do better somewhere else, because we've nothing here to offer them. Hope... we hope a lot, it's about all we've got. Our hopes are always dashed in the end.

When whatever faceless, interchangeable Dem takes over next year, they will try to force me to buy worthless health insurance and pretend that somehow solved the "health care crisis" they won't admit exists. But I can't afford worthless insurance and can't beat the cap on Medicaid, so they'll fine me if I show up at the ER. All that does is force me not to seek medical care - I'll have to die at home unattended. Already told grandson to bury me on the mountain where they buried the nameless, faceless prisoners who died building this railroad as slave labor back in 1908. Told him not to mark it or tell the gub'ment. They didn't care when I was alive, they've no business pretending to care when I die.

I just posted below you that I plan to turn my energy toward something positive -- not another candidacy (though I will vote in Nov for the Dem), but maybe I can honor what John Edwards started by investing more time in the causes that advance his agenda.

Hope is not dead, it's just not running for POTUS anymore.

57. It's a Hard Rain...
Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

---------------------------------

Today I wallowed in the bleak sense that America has lost a Great Opportunity.

Tomorrow I think I will turn that around and turn my energy toward something positive. I can't really get too excited about either Dem candidate, so I will take up a cause that advances what John Edwards inspired in me. This is a lemon, and I'll make some fuckin' lemonade. People are thirsty.

FOR JOHN & ELIZABETH: John, I will still vote for you in the primary regardless. You spoke for me, You were my voice as well as the voice of the working class and the poor among us. I realize what an uphill battle we had in getting our message across. Unfortunately, there were forces that made that message difficult to hear. I was ready to get in the trenches with you, donating my time and energy to getting you elected. I will put that energy to good use by creating awareness through video and music.

68. I'll probably vote Edwards simply because I see no real distinction between Obama and Hillary.
There may be a couple of differences, but I prefer Hillary on half of those differences (health care, fighting against anti-consumer tort legislation, etc.) and prefer Obama on the other half of those issues (Kyl-Lieberman, tax cuts for the wealthy, etc.).

It's a complete wash between Obama and Hillary.

HEY OBAMA-they don't want to hold your hand-they'd rather destroy you and they will)

That's us. They are laughing at US. Though, sadly the joke's on them. Waking up is hard to do. I'm still letting go. I don't know what future my children will have after me, but I'm damn sure the Democratic party will have no part in making it better.

I'm in Ca too and like you, I've already sent in my ballot for Edwards. The gesture wasn't a waste. It was me going with my gut instead of party line. And I intend to write his name in in November as well. Chucklsome thing is, I always used to laugh when I heard of those that would write in Mickey Mouse or Superman or such. Now here I am, clear-mindedly wasting my ballot for the purpose of stating and demonstrating my principles. Li'l ol' me, exhibiting a crumb of what the most powerful in our country do not.

"The genius of the United States is not best or most in its executives or legislatures, nor in its ambassadors or authors or colleges, or churches, or parlors, nor even in its newspapers or inventors, but always most in the common people."

Walt Whitman

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Beautiful post Rocky, I thought I got all of my tears out of my system yesterday and last night, but that wasn't the case...goosebumps to boot for a minute there...

A quote that seemed fitting:

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." Winston Churchill

And like waitingforhope, I'm proud to declare myself an Edwards Democrat! That's a label I'll have great pride in holding onto for a long time.

I'll still be heard, for what it's worth, when I write in Edwards on my ballot in PA on 4/22. If nothing else it will make me feel better knowing that I voted for what I truly believe in. I sent what may be the longest letter to the editor to several papers last night and this morning, it made me feel a little better.

Through the mad mystic hammering of the wild ripping hail
The sky cracked its poems in naked wonder
That the clinging of the church bells blew far into the breeze
Leaving only bells of lightning and its thunder
Striking for the gentle, striking for the kind
Striking for the guardians and protectors of the mind
An' the unpawned painter behind beyond his rightful time
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

109. Howl? I'll show you Howl.
And if ol' Alan didn't just hit this moment on the head, I'll eat the whole monkey, howl and all.

Allen Ginsberg's "Howl"

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by
madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negro streets at
dawn looking for an angry fix,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient
heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the
machinery of night,
who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high
sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of
cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities
contemplating jazz,
who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and
saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tene-
ment roofs illuminated,
who passed through universities with radiant cool
eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy
among the scholars of war,
who were expelled from the academies for crazy &
publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull,
who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear, burn-
ing their money in wastebaskets and listening
to the Terror through the wall,
who got busted in their pubic beards returning through
Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York,
who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in
Paradise Alley, death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night
with dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares, al-
cohol and cock and endless balls,
incomparable blind; streets of shuddering cloud and
lightning in the mind leaping toward poles of
Canada & Paterson, illuminating all the mo-
tionless world of Time between,
Peyote solidities of halls, backyard green tree cemetery
dawns, wine drunkenness over the rooftops,
storefront boroughs of teahead joyride neon
blinking traffic light, sun and moon and tree
vibrations in the roaring winter dusks of Brook-
lyn, ashcan rantings and kind king light of mind,
who chained themselves to subways for the endless
ride from Battery to holy Bronx on benzedrine
until the noise of wheels and children brought
them down shuddering mouth-wracked and
battered bleak of brain all drained of brilliance
in the drear light of Zoo,
who sank all night in submarine light of Bickford's
floated out and sat through the stale beer after
noon in desolate Fugazzi's, listening to the crack
of doom on the hydrogen jukebox,
who talked continuously seventy hours from park to
pad to bar to Bellevue to museum to the Brook-
lyn Bridge, lost battalion of platonic conversationalists jumping
down the stoops off fire escapes off windowsills
off Empire State out of the moon, yacketayakking screaming vomiting whispering facts
and memories and anecdotes and eyeball kicks
and shocks of hospitals and jails and wars,
whole intellects disgorged in total recall for seven days
and nights with brilliant eyes, meat for the
Synagogue cast on the pavement,
who vanished into nowhere Zen New Jersey leaving a
trail of ambiguous picture postcards of Atlantic
City Hall, suffering Eastern sweats and Tangerian bone-grind-
ings and migraines of China under junk-with-
drawal in Newark's bleak furnished room,
who wandered around and around at midnight in the
railroad yard wondering where to go, and went,
leaving no broken hearts, who lit cigarettes in boxcars boxcars boxcars racketing
through snow toward lonesome farms in grand-
father night, who studied Plotinus Poe St. John of the Cross telep-
athy and bop kabbalah because the cosmos in-
stinctively vibrated at their feet in Kansas,
who loned it through the streets of Idaho seeking vis-
ionary indian angels who were visionary indian
angels, who thought they were only mad when Baltimore
gleamed in supernatural ecstasy, who jumped in limousines with the Chinaman of Okla-
homa on the impulse of winter midnight street
light smalltown rain, who lounged hungry and lonesome through Houston
seeking jazz or sex or soup, and followed the
brilliant Spaniard to converse about America
and Eternity, a hopeless task, and so took ship
to Africa, who disappeared into the volcanoes of Mexico leaving
behind nothing but the shadow of dungarees
and the lava and ash of poetry scattered in fire
place Chicago, who reappeared on the West Coast investigating the
F.B.I. in beards and shorts with big pacifist
eyes sexy in their dark skin passing out incom-
prehensible leaflets,
who burned cigarette holes in their arms protesting
the narcotic tobacco haze of Capitalism,
who distributed Supercommunist pamphlets in Union
Square weeping and undressing while the sirens
of Los Alamos wailed them down, and wailed
down Wall, and the Staten Island ferry also
wailed, who broke down crying in white gymnasiums naked
and trembling before the machinery of other
skeletons, who bit detectives in the neck and shrieked with delight
in policecars for committing no crime but their
own wild cooking pederasty and intoxication,
who howled on their knees in the subway and were
dragged off the roof waving genitals and manu-
scripts, who let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly
motorcyclists, and screamed with joy,
who blew and were blown by those human seraphim,
the sailors, caresses of Atlantic and Caribbean
love, who balled in the morning in the evenings in rose
gardens and the grass of public parks and
cemeteries scattering their semen freely to
whomever come who may,
who hiccuped endlessly trying to giggle but wound up
with a sob behind a partition in a Turkish Bath
when the blond & naked angel came to pierce
them with a sword, who lost their loveboys to the three old shrews of fate
the one eyed shrew of the heterosexual dollar
the one eyed shrew that winks out of the womb
and the one eyed shrew that does nothing but
sit on her ass and snip the intellectual golden
threads of the craftsman's loom,
who copulated ecstatic and insatiate with a bottle of
beer a sweetheart a package of cigarettes a can-
dle and fell off the bed, and continued along
the floor and down the hall and ended fainting
on the wall with a vision of ultimate cunt and
come eluding the last gyzym of consciousness,
who sweetened the snatches of a million girls trembling
in the sunset, and were red eyed in the morning
but prepared to sweeten the snatch of the sun
rise, flashing buttocks under barns and naked
in the lake, who went out whoring through Colorado in myriad
stolen night-cars, N.C., secret hero of these
poems, cocksman and Adonis of Denver-joy
to the memory of his innumerable lays of girls
in empty lots & diner backyards, moviehouses'
rickety rows, on mountaintops in caves or with
gaunt waitresses in familiar roadside lonely pet-
ticoat upliftings & especially secret gas-station
solipsisms of johns, & hometown alleys too,
who faded out in vast sordid movies, were shifted in
dreams, woke on a sudden Manhattan, and
picked themselves up out of basements hung
over with heartless Tokay and horrors of Third
Avenue iron dreams & stumbled to unemploy-
ment offices, who walked all night with their shoes full of blood on
the snowbank docks waiting for a door in the
East River to open to a room full of steamheat
and opium, who created great suicidal dramas on the apartment
cliff-banks of the Hudson under the wartime
blue floodlight of the moon & their heads shall
be crowned with laurel in oblivion,
who ate the lamb stew of the imagination or digested
the crab at the muddy bottom of the rivers of
Bowery, who wept at the romance of the streets with their
pushcarts full of onions and bad music,
who sat in boxes breathing in the darkness under the
bridge, and rose up to build harpsichords in
their lofts, who coughed on the sixth floor of Harlem crowned
with flame under the tubercular sky surrounded
by orange crates of theology, who scribbled all night rocking and rolling over lofty
incantations which in the yellow morning were
stanzas of gibberish, who cooked rotten animals lung heart feet tail borsht
& tortillas dreaming of the pure vegetable kingdom, who plunged themselves under meat trucks looking for an egg,
who threw their watches off the roof to cast their ballot
for Eternity outside of Time, & alarm clocks
fell on their heads every day for the next decade,
who cut their wrists three times successively unsuccess-
fully, gave up and were forced to open antique
stores where they thought they were growing
old and cried, who were burned alive in their innocent flannel suits
on Madison Avenue amid blasts of leaden verse
& the tanked-up clatter of the iron regiments
of fashion & the nitroglycerine shrieks of the
fairies of advertising & the mustard gas of sinis-
ter intelligent editors, or were run down by the
drunken taxicabs of Absolute Reality,
who jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge this actually hap-
pened and walked away unknown and forgotten
into the ghostly daze of Chinatown soup alley
ways & firetrucks, not even one free beer,
who sang out of their windows in despair, fell out of
the subway window, jumped in the filthy Pas-
saic, leaped on negroes, cried all over the street,
danced on broken wineglasses barefoot smashed
phonograph records of nostalgic European
1930s German jazz finished the whiskey and
threw up groaning into the bloody toilet, moans
in their ears and the blast of colossal steam
whistles,
who barreled down the highways of the past journeying
to each other's hotrod-Golgotha jail-solitude
watch or Birmingham jazz incarnation,
who drove crosscountry seventytwo hours to find out
if I had a vision or you had a vision or he had
a vision to find out Eternity,
who journeyed to Denver, who died in Denver, who
came back to Denver & waited in vain, who
watched over Denver & brooded & loned in
Denver and finally went away to find out the
Time, & now Denver is lonesome for her heroes,
who fell on their knees in hopeless cathedrals praying
for each other's salvation and light and breasts,
until the soul illuminated its hair for a second,
who crashed through their minds in jail waiting for
impossible criminals with golden heads and the
charm of reality in their hearts who sang sweet
blues to Alcatraz,
who retired to Mexico to cultivate a habit, or Rocky
Mount to tender Buddha or Tangiers to boys
or Southern Pacific to the black locomotive or
Harvard to Narcissus to Woodlawn to the
daisychain or grave,
who demanded sanity trials accusing the radio of hyp
notism & were left with their insanity & their
hands & a hung jury
who threw potato salad at CCNY lecturers on Dadaism
and subsequently presented themselves on the
granite steps of the madhouse with shaven heads
and harlequin speech of suicide, demanding in-
stantaneous lobotomy,
and who were given instead the concrete void of insulin
Metrazol electricity hydrotherapy psycho-
therapy occupational therapy pingpong &
amnesia,
who in humorless protest overturned only one symbolic
pingpong table, resting briefly in catatonia,
returning years later truly bald except for a wig of
blood, and tears and fingers, to the visible mad
man doom of the wards of the madtowns of the
East,
Pilgrim State's Rockland's and Greystone's foetid
halls, bickering with the echoes of the soul, rock-
ing and rolling in the midnight solitude-bench
dolmen-realms of love, dream of life a night-
mare, bodies turned to stone as heavy as the
moon,
with mother finally ******, and the last fantastic book
flung out of the tenement window, and the last
door closed at 4. A.M. and the last telephone
slammed at the wall in reply and the last fur-
nished room emptied down to the last piece of
mental furniture, a yellow paper rose twisted
on a wire hanger in the closet, and even that
imaginary, nothing but a hopeful little bit of
hallucination
ah, Carl, while you are not safe I am not safe, and
now you're really in the total animal soup of
time
and who therefore ran through the icy streets obsessed
with a sudden flash of the alchemy of the use
of the ellipse the catalog the meter & the vibrat-
ing plane,
who dreamt and made incarnate gaps in Time & Space
through images juxtaposed, and trapped the
archangel of the soul between 2 visual images
and joined the elemental verbs and set the noun
and dash of consciousness together jumping
with sensation of Pater Omnipotens Aeterna
Deus
to recreate the syntax and measure of poor human
prose and stand before you speechless and intel-
ligent and shaking with shame, rejected yet con-
fessing out the soul to conform to the rhythm
of thought in his naked and endless head,
the madman bum and angel beat in Time, unknown,
yet putting down here what might be left to say
in time come after death,
and rose reincarnate in the ghostly clothes of jazz in
the goldhorn shadow of the band and blew the
suffering of America's naked mind for love into
an eli eli lamma lamma sabacthani saxophone
cry that shivered the cities down to the last radio
with the absolute heart of the poem of life butchered
out of their own bodies good to eat a thousand
years.

119. I'm here to, at least for awhile
I heard on NPR today, that we are sexist and racist in wanting to vote for Edwards. I just couldn't believe it.

So, I'm making hats today and everyday to give out to those who need them.

I just thought of something. Could we possibly get some sort of Edwards Democrat web site going? So we can co-ordinate on charity work and other poverty issues. Maybe a loose type of forum, sort of, where we can get people involved. If someone has a group that can volunteer, may be they can be put in touch with a group that needs them. Nothing really formal, but something that people can look into and say, hey I have some time, what's going on in my community and how can I help.

Oh, and I'm howling on the inside...........I would scare the bejeebers out of my son if I howled on the outside. :scared:

:hi:

139. What I meant of course-
By saying "Again, don't drink and type" Was that I shouldn't drink and type. If I had not been drinking, and typing, I would not be getting this spanking now from Vadem, for forgetting to remember her in the OP.

Remember kids, let this be a lesson to you. Don't drink & type. I'm the drunk one here, not Vadem. And I've been a very bad boy, and I'd like another.

141. Well, Rocky, you are a good man! You have explained your posts
and I think that you are a man after my own heart! You answered my PM with honesty and explanations that I can certainly understand with what is going on in our world today! Rocky is a man after my own heart! I also must say that I have also posted while drinking, although I don't often wish to publicize those incidents, it still happens, and I hope I don't sound too stupid, during those postings!

We love our DU posters, however, they post! We deal with their sometimes stupid propositions and we argue them down, right! Long live DU posters, however they post!!!!
