4. It is not about helping Obama. It is about helping Kennedy and Kerry
By aligning with Obama they pick up political points and if he wins the nomination and loses to Bloomberg or McCain, Kerry has one more opportunity to run for President.

Hillary was always stronger among Dems, Obama among Independents and crossover Repubs. Obama has ground to make up with the Dems. This gives those Dems who were flirting with Obama, or unsure, a modicum of comfort. This is not to say progressive Dems like those here at DU, perhaps, but regular people Dems.
