Quote
Mr. Obama may fare well in primaries in Alabama and Georgia, where blacks make up roughly a quarter of the overall voting population and perhaps twice that percentage in the Democratic primary electorate, but even if he does, it is unclear how meaningful primary victories in these states would be in November."

For the South McCain will more pallatable than voting for Obama!

This is what I have been saying all along!

4. You're talking about the Southern States, it a different animal!
Just heard on NPR a So. Dem who second this opinion, could not bring him to vote for Obama, and many feel the same.

10. I believe that some will only vote Clinton vs McCain because of the war.

Now run the numbers with the GOP's favorite boogeywoman Hillary if you think Obama's numbers are bad.

I'm more interested in Virginia.

9. so?
all we need is the west and Ohio, Iowa or Wisconsin.

We take any of those, we win. We can completely write off the south.

11. I think you might be wrong. One more reason to ditch the current primary system
because it can paint a distorted picture because of open and closed primaries.

13. I know but then I think the situation is unique at the moment. Harold Ford
ran a pretty good campaign in Tennesee, Bob Corker 51% to Harold Ford Jr.'s 48%, (I believe those were the results)

16. This is just absolute bullshit by someone in NYC?? What do any of those assh***s know about the
people of the South, or living in the South? Just like all the b/s I've been hearing spewed on teevee today about who Edwards supporters are and who Edwards supporters will vote for now, its just BULL designed to make people fall into the line they want us all standing in!

I can tell you that Edwards and Obama both have huge support in the South. I don't give a shit what some stupid polls say. I see grassroots support and activism like I have never seen it before in my decades living here. People *will* vote for Obama and I don't need some hack in a suit sitting behind a desk in New York City telling me how my neighbors, friends, co-workers and relatives can and will vote.

who are somewhat conservative going to pick! BTW I live in the South, and I'm don't get much positive feedback for Obama, just saying.

19. I'd expect more common sense from the NYTimes... since when
has a DEM candidate depended on southern state electoral votes to win an election? I mean... who cares whether we lose 65-35 or 55-45 or 70-30 in the Confederate States. This is the HOMELAND of the Republican Party.

It's all about the EV's.

22. God, I'm sick of our democrary being held hostage by these racist, sexist fucks!
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 03:26 PM by calmblueocean
“The Democrats have left the working people,” Mr. Moss said.

“We have nobody representing us,” he continued, adding that he was “sad to say” he had voted previously for Mr. Bush. He was considering sitting out this election altogether. “Anyone but Obama-Osama,” he said, chuckling at a designation that met with mirthful approval at the table. <...>

“You get Peloski up there and they say we’ve lost the war, and that just fuels our adversaries,” said Mr. Hickman, incorrectly pronouncing the name of Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

* * *

I know lashing out in anger doesn't change any minds, but god DAMN! I'm sick of ignorant people who are smug about their own ignorance. How the hell is this country ever going to be what it ought to be when it's forever being dragged down in the muck by these sexist, racist "good ole boys". Every election, it seems like we have to dumb down our electoral choices more and more. It's assholes like these guys who are responsible for GWB, and the War in Iraq, and the fact that millions of people in this country don't have healthcare, and I don't see ever getting changing them a bit.

It makes me sick.

23. With Edwards Out, there are NO Electoral Votes for Us in the South
Our efforts in the South need to concentrate on saving Democratic officeholders down-ticket, because we will lose very badly there with either Clinton or Obama,
and Democratic officeholders in the South are something of an endangered species already.

Yes, this means we have to run the table everywhere else that has EVER voted Democratic to win the Presidency.
