Democrats are making history
For the first time in the history of the Republic, a major party is going to nominate someone who is not a white male.

That's historic and gives me shivers when I really think about it.

When I was a kid, I saw pictures on the news of fire hoses and dogs being turned on African Americans. I remember Dr. King being killed - it was the same day my pet rabbit had to be put down. At the time, I cried over the rabbit, but I have cried for Dr. King many times since then.

When I was a kid, women who wanted more than to raise children were called "womens libbers" and "bra-burners". Not a single woman in my neighborhood had a job. Most didn't drive cars. I was in Junior High when the honorific "Ms." came into being. Nobody used it at first, but it did catch on.

It would have been unimaginable back then to be in the situation we're in today. The Democrats are going to nominate a woman or a black man to be President of the United States.

I have deep gratitude to Walter Mondale for choosing Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate in 1984. It was an incredibly bold and brave move. It really shocked America, and they both made history. And the history we're making now is even more ground-breaking.

Kudos to Democrats!

is going to make history.

27. And once again, he is correct. We WILL. Either way, we win.
That's how I look at it, as a still-undecided voter. Now that Edwards is out, we have two choices. Either way, we will break another glass ceiling. Either we'll give America the first black president or the first woman president. EITHER WAY, WE WIN. That, all by itself, constitutes a win. A win for ALL America, and for ALL of our history. I would hope either side, Obama or Clinton, will celebrate for the other on that Day of Jubilee! It will be a win for ALL of us.

When Hillary and Barack were both in, I kept thinking about the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes: You may already be a winner! We were, at that very moment.

4. Agreed
I'm very happy for our party. We will be making history when we nominate either Hillary or Obama for the Democratic nomination.

However, it's all for naught if we lost the election. So let's hope we make history that way too!

I want BOTH of them to be president, but only one can go first. In 2016, Clinton would be approaching age 70-and frankly, that's too old.

All kidding aside, and with all due respect to Edwards, no matter what, significant race and gender barriers have been broken and that is really awesome.

I don't like Clinton (as you know) but she has done a great thing for women. So for just this one moment -->

For over 200 years, the United States has only elected white males as President. There is a superb chance that will change next November.

And we Democrats are the first to affect this change. Kudos, indeed, to Democrats!
