You're not getting my vote
Oh, yes, I'll vote for the Democratic nominee in the general. I'd have to be a fool not to. It's not even the lesser of two evils. The Democratic candidates are not evil. I believe their hearts are in the right place. But they do not inspire me. They do not fill me with hope. But look across the aisle: the Republicans are a fucking joke. Our candidates, though they have fallen short of my expectations, are candidates for the 21st century. The Republican candidates are paleozoic clowns. Their time is over.

But if Edwards is still on my ballot on Tuesday (and I would assume it's far too late to take him off), I am casting my vote for the people and against corporatocracy. I encourage all Edwards supporters who believe in this country to do the same. Show the corporate candidates that you'd rather vote for a candidate no longer in the race who stood for the people than for either of them.

I appreciate those who have expressed sympathy and good will to the Edwards supporters, but don't waste your breath trying to convince me that your candidate is better than the other candidate. He's not. She's not. I will most likely not be reading GD/P anymore. The sniping and moral pretzel-twisting of the bulk of the arguments here has become a cesspool of irrelevance, and it isn't good for my soul. I've been neglecting my writing for far too long, locked in an almost catatonic emotional state since the 2004 election. I feel like I've been waiting to breathe, stuck on a shocked inhale and expecting some kind of change to happen. Well, it's just too painful holding that breath in any longer: first Kerry not running, then Gore, and now the loss of what I consider our last, best hope.

Thanks to those of you who are still fighting the good fight. (And this includes many Clinton and Obama supporters.) As for the rest of it, I'm sitting this one out.

3. I'm voting Edwards on Tuesday, now more than ever. I want to see him
as a strong convention presence and the more popular support he retains the more presence he'll have.

I'm still for Edwards, right up until I have to vote with my gut (for the Democrat, absolutely).

10. It is your democratic right but surely affecting the result is more consequential...
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 01:33 PM by cooolandrew
...A radio caller said staying at home or non vote only ever gave us republicans so affecting the result is the better choice. Although indemocracy people vote as they see fit.

11. I guess you only read the subject line
The very first sentence of my post was "Oh, yes, I WILL be voting for the Democratic nominee in the general."

The second sentence was about the kind of fool who would not.

21. THANK YOU for pointing that out!
There IS a difference between withdrawing and suspending campaigning. He has NOT released his delegates nor made an endorsement of anybody else.

He's still on the ballot, and he can still win delegates.

Our candidate told us to take our time and keep our powder dry.

Sage advice.

22. I truly feel for the people who live in contested states
I am very sincere in saying that- you people who live elsewhere can't imagine how liberating it is to live in a sure-win republican hellhole like Texas right now.

25. My vote is precious... it was paid for in blood over the generations.
My vote will NOT go to the lesser of two weavils.

We all have our own decisions to make, and may of us have decided this... as far back as '04.

29. Email from the horse's mouth: "I suspended my campaign for the Democratic nomination" ~John Edwards
A suspension is temporary. It does not indicate or state a withdrawal.

30. And I've "suspended" any work on nominating a Democratic candidate now too!
I've given up ALL hope that this party listens to its core base any more in allowing it to help select who should represent it. Therefore, if they want my help they have to PAY me their corporatist loot! We need some trickle down from them if there's ANY value to us of those corporatist dollars going in!
