Why is Edwards dropping out?
Right before Super Tuesday?

You would think he would at least see what happens on Super Tuesday. He may have won a state or two. He may have even picked up 200 delegates in that process, becoming a power broker.

He said he wouldn't drop out until the convention.

As the Edwards supporters know, I wasn't the biggest fan of his campaign. But he injected some sanity into the debates. He will be sorely missed.

Did he run out of money?

4. The only possible explanation may be due to lack of funds
That's the only reason I could think of.

5. My theory
The Republicans will have a candidate on Super Tuesday (they have 'winner take all states'; we don't). Probably McCain, but who knows.

If the Democrats drag this out until the convention, we will have no candidate, more infighting, and no chance to regroup or raise money for the nominee. Edwards staying in was contributing to this impasse. I'm sure he's been under intense pressure from the party and individuals since losing Iowa. His campaign has admitted he can win no states. He had to do this for the sake of the party. It was the right choice.

6. That is a good observation.
Although we may still very well have a fight between Clinton and Obama to drag out.
