See, I know from last time that as soon as a candidate gets the Plaidder endorsement,
it's all over.I just want to say one thing about the response to the previous day's post, which sort of surprised me in terms of the size. There were a lot of responses saying, "Yes! Once Edwards defeats the corporatist media who are trying to silence him and his message is heard, he will triumph!"
Actually my point was that although certainly there was a concerted effort to keep news of his campaign off the air, that doesn't necessarily mean that if there *had* been better coverage, he would have won. I don't think there are enough people in America--at least not enough people in America who vote in the Democratic primary--who are willing to endorse that message.
When I reposted the thing on my livejournal someone commented to the effect that it's not so much that class consciousness is dead in America, as that the only form it takes is fear of anything resembling socialism. I think that's probably true--the rich are certainly conscious of their own class status and the need to defend it from everyone else, but of course that's not "class warfare," that's just capitalism. It's only "class warfare" when there's a chance that something might be taken away from those that have.
Anyway, I feel for all the people who posted with their protestations of undying support for a guy who just pulled his tent and walked. Since my hopes were kind of low anyway, it's less painful for me. But you all did something good by allowing him to stay in the race as long as he did and by making his voice part of the campaign for as long as it has been.
