No matter who wins each primary--Hillary, Obama, or Edwards--we have to recognize that each of our contests are going way better than theirs are. Even when we don't get more voters overall, our winner always beats their winner in terms of votes cast. The conservative base hates McCain, while the moderates think Romney is a lying sack, and nobody trusts Huckabee. Whatever power they had during the Bush/Cheney era is long gone, as every day a new Republic Senator or Rep announces his retirement from Congress.
So all this squabbling over whether Obama or Hillary or Edwards would precipitate a GOP comeback should be taken with a grain of salt. The Republicans ARE the party of Bush/Cheney, and each candidate has paid them lip service in the last couple years. And WE'RE complaining about ties to Murdoch or Lieberman? THEY'RE tied to a man who's been hovering at 30% approval for about 2 years!
I swear, all we need to do to win is not be so damn afraid of the once-mighty Republican machine that we end up irrevocably hating a candidate we think will "play right into their hands". That would assume the GOP is organized enough to have some sort of master game plan, but with so many inadequate, third-choice candidates, no such plan exists. At this point, they're more scared of us than we are of them.
