He was always our easiest potential candidate to beat and McCain was always our hardest.

The shortsightedness on this board is really embarassing.

1. I agree. I want Mittmentum!
You're right. McCain will be the toughest to beat. Mitt is an empty suit. However, it's far from over...I have hope for Mitt yet!

2. But If Romney Won The GE By Some Fluke, It Would Be Horrific
Romney is capable of more evil than any other candidate.

3. Romney has the potential to be a stronger candidate

How you know the future is beyond me, but in Mass, an extremely blue state, that weasel somehow got himself elected. Don't underestimate this cretin.

10. I watched Bill Weld, Paul Celucci, and Jane Swift all serve before he did in 2002, a GOP year
and Romney ran against a shittier candidate than any of the previous back-to-back GOP MA governors ever ran against.

11. He got elected in MA. because he ran on a liberal platform there,
even saying "abortion should be safe & legal" (the clip was played in ads against him showing how he's flip-flopped).....Hell, he was almost a moderate like Gov. Schwartzenegger when he was MA.'s governor...

NOW, Romney is running on a far right platform, the Mitt Romney that's running for POTUS, would have NEVER won an election in MA.....

8. Totally agree with you..........
and I think Mitt will win this thing. I say that without a great deal of confidence, but I think there will be a real effort by the GOP power base to destabilize McCain.

9. In 2000 we thought Bush was beatable, too.

Maybe McCain will be harder to beat. I'm not totally convinced of that; the fundies and the freepers don't like him, and Rush and the other hate radio slugs have been trashing him nonstop. Mittens was always the big money guy that the corporatist establishment wanted. Even so, if McCain gets the nomination and, God forbid, wins, it would be marginally less horrible than if Mittens got the nomination and won. (At least McCain is opposed to torture and has fits of sanity with respect to immigration.) But don't panic. We can take McCain, too.

The thing is, I want the Republicans to nominate their least horrible candidate in case they manage to steal another election.

12. McCain doesn't bring out the Republican base.
The independents aren't going to vote republican with all the issues and economic problems, so I'm not as worried about McCain as I would be someone the Republican base is excited about.

15. Yeah but the Bushies
(and Elizabeth Hasslebeck-View twit talking head who I SWEAR has talking points straight from the RNC every day) wanted Romney. Loved some Romney. So I know whomever THEY want is the worst for us. Even with all the Bush butt licking-they still hate McCain-not that he's good-he's just a hair better. As far as contests go-the base doesn't love McCain and yes the "independents" might. But sometimes he does look like a crazy old man, so who knows.
