Camp Clinton Has Some Kennedys, Too

Kennedys for Clinton

She stands for Democrats and for the nation, these family members say.

EDITORIAL (L.A. Times)

By Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kerry Kennedy

January 29, 2008

This is a wonderful year for Democrats. Our party is blessed with the most impressive array of primary candidates in modern history. All would make superb presidents.

By now you may have read or heard that our cousin, Caroline Kennedy, and our uncle, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, have come out in favor of Sen. Barack Obama. We, however, are supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton because we believe that she is the strongest candidate for our party and our country.

While talk of unity and compromise are inspiring to a nation wary of divisiveness, America stands at a historic crossroads where real issues divide our political landscapes. Democrats believe that America should not be torturing people, eavesdropping on our citizens or imprisoning them without habeas corpus or other constitutional rights. We should not be an imperial power. We need healthcare for all and a clean, safe environment.

The loftiest poetry will not solve these issues. We need a president willing to engage in a fistfight to safeguard and restore our national virtues.

We have worked with Hillary Clinton for 15 years (and in Kathleen’s case, 25 years) and witnessed the power and depth of her convictions firsthand. We’ve seen her formidable work ethic, courage in the face of adversity and her dignity and clear head in crisis. We’ve also seen her two-fisted willingness to enter the brawl when America’s principles are challenged. Her measured rhetoric, political savvy and pragmatism shield the heart of our nation’s most determined and most democratic warrior.

....(SNIP)

2. Ooo, are they are sparkly and light? Do they stay crunchy in milk?
I don't give a shit about the Kennedys on either side of this dog race, in my eyes they're nothing more than moneyed elitists who've done way too many deals with corporate America. Witness your boy RFK Jr. I listened to him give an astonishing speech last Sept that excoriated corporations and corporate politics, but here he is, when the rubber meets the road, endorsing one of the most corporately compromised candidates going. Pfft on the Kennedys

3. I think he is completely focused on getting money for his
foundation so that he can buy heating fuel for the poor, and thinks Clinton is his ticket. I understand your point but given what he is doing with his life I give him a pass.

4. This race is nothing if not passionate

Just doing a bit of market reasearch here, since I'm not voting for Clinton or Obama. Here's what I've noticed:

* Anytime I post a pro-Clinton thread on DU or the RFK blog, it DIES a swift and ugly death. Clinton's supporters don't weigh in, and if they do, the response is tepid at best. Pro-Clinton stories on our blog get maybe 2-5 comments per post. Web hits are practically non-existent. If the pro-Clinton pieces get any interest at all, it is in the form of angry comments from her many detractors. Go figure.

* Anytime a positive piece about Obama is posted (such as the recent Kennedys endorsements), the response has been tremendous. Even more amazing, Obama's supporters regularly post on our RFK blog, even though Bobby is openly endorsing Clinton. Go figure.

* Anytime I post a piece about Bobby just talking like Bobby (such as "This Is The World Eisenhower Warned Us About", this week's top post by far), hits go thru the roof. Word spreads through the liberal/progressive blogosphere and the thing just takes off like a rocket. DU thread catches on fire, comments flood into the blog.

What should Bobby gather from this response? The answer seems clear.

9. And again, the Kennedy hypocrisy is astonishing
Sure, they talk a good progressive game, but when it comes down to actually doing something, they side with corporate America each and every time.

If RFK Jr. runs at some point, will he do it on his own dime, or will he accept that corporate lucre? Judging by his latest endorsement, I think that the latter is the most probable option, and all he will be is one more corporately compromised candidate.

Fire eating speeches are great and wonderful, but you've also got to walk the talk. RFK Jr. has shown that he's not walking yet. Get back to me when he is.

12. I assume you are aware that most of the early boomers and
pre boomers don't spend that much time on the internet. A lot of Hillary's support is in the over 55 crowd. One of the reasons we don't spend much time here is that we are all taking care of our parents (WWII generation) and our grandchildren (because they have two working parents). Meanwhile, we are all still working full time.

There is a ton of anger in my age group at Obama for dissing our generation - the generation that has been involved in movement politics our entire life and we know that he is able to stand today as a candidate for President because of our generation's willingness to fight for changes. But what battle is fully won? The fight is not over but he tells us to put it down and make nice with the opposition. No thanks.

For many of us the generational wounds inflicted within our families in the 60s and 70s have never healed. And now, to top it off, we have to listen as this ingrate insults us.

I am lesbian. So he has thrown me under twice now.

But wait - his National Co-Chairman is a sexist pig so that makes it three times under the wheels of his Unity Bus.

6. They compare Hillary to Bobby Kennedy.
Ted and Caroline compare Obama to Jack and Bobby's kids compare Hillary to Bobby.

Bobby has always been more of a hero to me personally.

I wonder if any of those three will campaign with Hillary?

Thanks for posting. Good read.

7. They campaigned for her in NH and Iowa
And I'm sure they will be doing all they can to help her to the end.

It seems these three Kennedys understand the meaning of LOYALTY.

I would agree most people probably don't care.
I do....and it's a big deal to me.

I personally don't see alot of politicians or political families I give a tinkers damn about. The Kennedy's for me .........that's a different story.

14. Apparently the media didn't get the memo...
that Kennedy endorsements don't matter. See this article:
