So Obama is a distant cousin of Dick Cheney's?
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 06:05 PM by Emit
Someone told me that today and I had to Google it to see if they were pulling my leg:

It's all relative for cousins Dick Cheney and Barack Obama

Political differences appear to be all in the family for Dick Cheney and Barack Obama.

The Vice President is an eighth cousin to the Illinois senator and Democratic presidential hopeful. Cheney's wife Lynne stumbled across the connection while doing research for her recent memoir about growing up in Wyoming, "Blue Skies, No Fences."

"This is such an amazing American story that one ancestor ... could be responsible down the family lines for lives that have taken such different and varied paths as Dick's and Barack Obama," Lynne Cheney told MSNBC during an interview on Tuesday.

Ginny Justice, a spokeswoman for Lynne Cheney, said that Obama is a descendent of French Huguenot Mareen Duvall. Duvall's son married the granddaughter of a Richard Cheney, who came to the fledgling United States from England in the 1650s, settling in Maryland.

An Obama spokesman had this to say of the ancestral link between the two pols: "Every family has a black sheep."

10. It really is
I got to before 1620 in Massachusetts and from there to New Amsterdam. It took me ten years altogether, but I thoroughly enjoyed doing it.

12. My grandmother did ours and we've apparently got a lot of indentured
servants in our family history -- for what that's worth.

3. eight cousin
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 06:06 PM by fenriswolf
so if 2nd cousins are when you share a commen grandparent then eight cousin means they
share a commen great, great, great, great, great, great grandparent.

If that is true I would hardly call them family. I believe if you are third cousins you can legally marry in the united states right?

Others of my cousins include James Madison, John Adams, Zachary Taylor, etc, etc. I'm stunningly
out of the loop even so.

I'm an Edwards supporters but fair is fair.
