Why do African American voters think that Obama can do more for them than Edwards or Clinton
Does he have any proven track record that he has done anything for them in the past? If he won the Democrat nomination and was voted in as president, would he be able to handle ANY criticism and not call the critic "racist". To me, it seems that the Clintons only have to open their mouths and the media and Obama campaign team are looking for racist innuendo. Is that what his presidency is going to be like?

Hillary Clinton, being female, is up against males and it doesn't seem to me that she is looking for innuendo about her gender.

I would love to see Edwards improve considerably in this campaign so that voters can return to judging the candidates on policy and not race or gender.

8. Clinton did a lot for Afro Americans
He had more Black in his cabinet than any other prez. He has proven himself. Edwards takes in all Americans in his speeches, all will be treated the same.

14. All candidates should be treated equally
I would like to see everybody try to see past the color or gender and just listen to what they have to say and what they have done in the past (to back it up). I have absolutely nothing against a black president or a female president as long as they can handle the job. Two of my favorite leaders are Nelson Mandella from South Africa and Helen Clarke from New Zealand. I would hate to see the scenario where the Democrats fight so much amongst each other that they let the Republicans in again.

15. why do you ask like that...
I trust black men ..woman..IT IS THIS ONE I have problems with...It's not fair to me or other voter be accused of racism or hating one another because we disagree with your candidate. For one..I truly believe with all my heart and from my research he has not been up front and totally candid.
I really loved Obama a couple of months back...but since coming to DU...my views have change ..a lot! I am too tired at the moment to bore you with my experiences..findings... etc...BUT will say...IF Obama had lived up to his promises and rose above the MSM game..I might feel different about supporting him and have a better opinion of his supporters here. bestest to you.:)

21. I'm BLACK. . .
and I'm not so very sure about Obama as president. I honestly think that whole coalitions of people in
Congress will form to thwart his efforts because he seems to have no actual plan.

10. The real question is why wouldn't you think that?
Why would women voters think Clinton would be better for them?

Why would white men voters think Edwards would be better for them?

Please stop the flame baiting, each candidate has drawn from a much wider range of voters than any of the Repub candidates, so lets move on with electing our candidate.

16. Some black people are just plain stupid. . .
They vote skin color for the sake of skin color. What a wasteful and stupid thing to do.

And before you start crying "RACIST!" you need to know that I AM A BLACK WOMAN; in fact, I am a Daughter of
the 54th Massachusetts Regiment (see the movie "Glory"), who had two great-grandfathers that fought at the
battle of Fort Wagner. Once again, in fact, my namesake great-grandfather was taken prisoner at that
infamous battle and was literally "done to death" at Andersonville Prison. My blackness is bonafide!
In addition to all of this, I was AT MLK's "I have a dream speech" in Washington DC. I lived through and saw the "Whites only-Colored only signs"; I was one of the people who couldn't get a meal at the Woolworth's lunch counter. Don't tell me I'm a racist. That is patently impossible!

Yet, it still disturbs me that some black people continue to vote the color of the skin rather than the content of the
character.

I love Barack Obama. He is a wonderful person. But he is also callow and naive. It is not entirely clear to me that he has the ability to do all of the things he promises. I would love to see a black president. The historical legacy is enormous! Yet, it is also clear that presidents must have the capacity to DO SOMETHING, and to persuade others to their side, and I cannot picture the Congress falling into line behind Obama.

23. Did you actually READ my comment?
From what you said, it is very clear that YOU DID NOT READ ANY PART OF MY COMMENT!

Sheesh.

From time immemorial (at least from the time that black people could actually vote in this
nation) there have been a certain percentage of blacks that vote merely on the basis of skin color.
And that's all the more sad for us as black people. We need to vote for the BEST person, not the
blackest person.

that vote for people like themselves or who they relate to, right?

And more, that there are plenty of legitimate reasons for doing that, right?

She and her campaign don't have to point them out. It's so easily visible to those of us who see them for what they are, cause we've been seeing it for decades, already.

19. Obama is charismatic, and an excellent orator. He inspires. Has strong unseen backing.
He has learned the art of tickling people's ears. Plus he is a democrat.

Just exactly like George W. Bush snookered in the Republicans en masse.

And that is the scariest thing about Obama.

30. Without trying to spoil the Kennedy reputation
John F Kennedy had a lot of Charisma too. With the forcefulness and encouragement of Martin L. King and Bobby Kennedy, he started the ball rolling on racial equality. That is the only real positive I can remember about his presidency. Other than the "Bay of Pigs" scandal, involving the US in Vietnam, playing a part in nearly involving the world in nuclear war with Russia and being a worse serial bonker than Bill Clinton, I think his legend outweighs reality.

31. To that I would add that JFK was raised well,
the dignity and charm of his Mother's culture was instilled in him. White lace Irish they called in turn-of-the-century Boston. Unlike Bush and, sad to say, Obama.
