Obama Running Mate?
Who do you want to balance that ticket out with?

Let's brainstorm here.

1. Here it comes...
The Clinton and Edwards people coming out of the woodwork to jump up and down over the fact that the primaries aren't over yet.

I was thinking about this the other day. We really need someone to blow the experience question out of the water. Someone who is like a father figure for the party that we can all say has been around for a while. Also if he could deliver the south that would be great.

40. I don't think that there are enough big name females out there
I don't have a problem with a female running mate but who would it be? I really can't imagine Hillary being anyone's VP.

Fritz Hollings? I mean, he's been around for AWHILE, but he fits. I bet he could deliver a good part of the south.

No
Think fresh, exciting. Matching Obama's vibe of New Democrat.

Just tossing some names around based on what the poster had described. I think a governor would be best, maybe tim kaine or brian schweitzer?

Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 08:29 PM by earthlover
Geographically, foreign policy experience, generationally....heck I don't know why on Earth Wes endorsed Hillary, but Wes as VP now would be seen as a unity thing with the Hillary Herd....not to mention he is a good debater, loyal Democrat who helped more candidates in 06 than anyone else....and he is a true progressive to boot!

37. You really need to research the guy. McGovern and Michael Moore endorsed him....
Unlike Hillary, Clark opposed and spoke to Congress against the IWR.

Clark was the most liberal candidate running (besides kucinich) in 04. Yet he was perceived as moderate. PArt of this perception was his military credentials.

The problem is with liberals, they have this knee-jerk reaction that someone in the military is a warlock. Wrong! Haven't we learned ANYTHING from the fact that NOBODY in Bush's circle of power served in the military? The chickenhawks were war promoters. People like Wes Clark know war is for the very very last last last possible resort.

I agree with McGovern....Wes Clark is a "Democrat's Democrat"

33. I can think of three logical choices.....
1) Wes Clark....Obama could use his national security/foreign policy
credentials and it might help mend a rift with the Clinton wing of the party.

2) Bill Richardson....Again, Obama would benefit from a running mate with a
strong background in foreign policy. A Hispanic governor is surely a plus.

3) Bob Graham.......former FLORIDA senator with strong national security
experience and a strong vote getter in Florida.

That's just at first thought.....

I wrote at length on this on another VP thread today. Webbs' campaign was almost torpedoed based on his negative comments on women in the military in the 80s. Obama will not pick him.
