He said they now vote like other Democratic voters and implied that they no longer blindly vote for black candidates.

6. While I agree it could have been worded much better
I was watching when he said that and to put into actual CONTEXT he was rather impressed with the large African American turnout today.

8. it was a ridiculous comment but does have some merit
Sociologically speaking African Americans are "civicly assimilated". Meaning of course African Americans have assimilated to the democratic party and don't just line up behind black canidates.

It was ignorant of Schneider to suggest that Jesse Jackson's incredible push from AAs came just because he was black, but not that they felt he could be President.
