1. Mine is in May
I was never going to have an opportunity to have my vote count. That's the way it goes.

8. Yep. The practical solution for the crybabies.
BTW. You can still vote and it will still count.

Kerry has just amassed too big a lead to be defeated.

3. I think they f**k us over in the south
because they know our states probably will be going repub anyway, so why do our opinions on the nominee matter? Sad truth.

10. You're right.
I got to vote today in a Primary that wasn't just a rubber stamp. And it didn't used to be like that in Ohio. We used to be in the same boat you're in. It sucks, alright, and I tend to agree that the process isn't right. I don't go for a super-duper primary where all fifty states vote on the same day, really, but I see what you're saying.

That's what I did today.

21. That's what I did in CA today
Now it's just down to how many delegates we can get our own candidate on the floor at the convention.

This system sucks. CA didn't count today. The decision had already been made for us.

Something has GOT to change....no crossovers from Reps and Inds. and ALL primaries on the same day.

This whole thing was unfair.

It sucks. 23 Electoral votes and we can't speak.

Go Kerry!

18. Man, I am SO there. . .
Let's face it - the only contests that are really, really important are a combo vote-swap-meet/church social in Iowa and a teeny tiny state that goes Republican in the GE. Basically, we allow contests that DO NOT MATTER in the General Election to determine the choice OF WHO IS RUNNING in that same General Election. It's upside down.

Why oh why, don't we start with the states that actually play a biv role in the general election? Or group the biggies with some smaller states? Or do a national primary? Or a lottery. Or SOMETHING else.

Who determines the order of the primaries anyway? Is it a state-by-state thing or something set up by the DNC? (I've heard both versions, but have yet to get a definitive answer.) Along with working this year to Get Out The Vote, I would really, really love to work to change the Dem primary process.

20. always look on the bright side of life
Those of us (me too IL votes 3-16) who did not get to determine the candidate can still influence the party platform. In fact to an extent we get a free vote. we don't have to worry that DK won't get elected we can still effect the outcome of the election by getting the best platform together.

22. It's not over
You can still vote for anyone you want and try to get them delegates.

In 1988, Oregon, with its May primary, went 39% for Jesse Jackson. This was a protest at being stuck with Dukakis.

Other late primary states can do something similar.

24. Sometimes Democracy works TOO well.
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 02:16 AM by rucky
the people have spoken - quite resoundingly.

Dems are eager to get on with getting together & beating up on Bush.

Didn't work out the way I planned, either, but I campaigned for Jerry Brown in '92 so what do I know.
