Poll question: which pro-Iraqi Resolution candidate would do best in General Election?
Imagine that Dean, Clark, Kucinich, Mosley Braun, and Sharpton are not nominated. Which of the remaining candidates who voted for the Iraqi Resolution would be the most effective General Election candidate against Bush?

2. I appreciate that unlike many Dean-supporters you call them pro-resolution
which isn't the same thing as labels like pro-war, or war-monger, or neocon, that many just love to slander them with

I think that Edwards has the potential to get more electoral votes, but a Kerry/Graham ticket has almost if not the same chance at beating Bush

6. So if I shoot someone in the head... I'm not pro-murder

I'm simply pro-trigger pulling... and hold no responsibility for the consequences of my actions?

7. The resolution was like cocking the gun, not pulling the trigger
if the war was as you put it, the shot.

It stepped up the inspections and INCREASED THE THREAT to Saddams regime to comply with 1441

10. Same rationale was used by concentration camp guards
Edited on Thu Jan-01-04 12:08 PM by IndianaGreen
They were only guarding the prisoners, not leading them into the gas chamber.

:puke:

A prowar nominee will lose the election badly.

11. And cocking the trigger is not complicity in murder?
Amazing.

3. Edwards.
If he hadn't been lost in the mix of so many other qualified candidates who stole his thunder, he could have done well this cycle. As it stands, I think his time could be in 2012. But then the same could be said for Kerry who somehow never found the passion to really run this time.

8. no he isn't
the resolution is a complicated issue, the fact that Clark would have considered a yes, but his final decision would be no, is a testement to his understanding of the issue and his fairness.

9. Clark didn't have a vote. Like Dean.
It's easy now, in hindsight, to say what you'd do, but the fact is, neither of them were tested on this issue at the time.

I don't disagree with their statements now that they say they would not have voted for the resolution, as written, but I do think it's somewhat different than having to place a vote at the time (esp. given that McAuliffe had sent a memo to all Dems urging them to vote yes---that's what I've heard happened).

Having said the above, I must say that I was shocked that that resolution was passed. I don't think that I could have, in good conscience, voted for placing the decision of war in the hands of one person, regardless of who that person was.

I think that Gephardt would have the best chance of beating Bush (of the choices given above). Although I would vote for Kerry as the nominee, I think in the end, Gephardt would have a better chance. Kerry's in a downswing and is having trouble explaining certain things lately. He's not as appealing to the masses. He's better and more dedicated than Gephardt, but.....

5. I vote Kerry but I like the idea of Edwards now...
I'm very tired of Kerry's shots at Dean and Dean's shots back at Kerry.
