What a long, strange trip these primaries have been. I remember when they were a million years away; I even remember when Bush was the presumptive winner. How times change.
While people like to bitch about how supporters of candidate X are, really, the vilest of the vile, I've got to say that ALL candidates' supporters are extremely impressive.
People gave, called, handwrote letters, shivered in the snow, argued on DU and in person, and impressed the hell out of me.
I tell you what: I was telling my friend that I had little hope for this country, that it could just sink further into the dark, while a blinded populace let it so sink. He responded that America will endure, that it endured the Civil War, Vietnam, any number of tears, and each time bounced back and renewed its soul.
In seeing your actions, I see he was right and I was wrong. We're not merely taking our country back--we're not merely taking it from insanity to sanity--but we're once again, helping to renew its soul.
There's a tremendous passion here, and, if I might permit myself a bit of progressive, jingoistic cheeziness, I'm more proud to be an American because what all of together have thrashed out over the last few months.
Cheers!
