On the Democratic side, Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton continued to flex his southern muscles, winning here by a substantially larger margin than in Georgia. With nearly all of the Democratic primary vote tallied, Clinton had 63 percent, trouncing his nearest competitor, former Massachusetts senator Paul E. Tsongas, whose 19 percent was barely enough to qualify for delegates in the proportional allocation system used by Democrats. Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin and former California governor Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown Jr. had 6 percent each, not enough to win any delegates. "Uncommitted" and a minor candidate had the rest.

Clinton's victory put him in ideal position to take advantage of the predominantly southern contests on Super Tuesday, which will set the stage for voting March 17 in the crucial industrial states of Illinois and Michigan. Clinton today also won the Wyoming caucuses and split with Tsongas in Arizona. In caucuses there, Tsongas won the popular vote, but Clinton claimed an edge in delegates selected.

"It'll be a nice boost going into Super Tuesday," Clinton said of his big win in South Carolina.

Television networks reported that exit polls showed Clinton with 75 percent or more of the black vote to 3 percent for Tsongas and 15 percent for Harkin, who had put on a full-court press for black votes. Clinton beat Tsongas by a 2-1 ratio among whites, while Tsongas continued to show strength among the best-educated whites and whites earning more than $ 75,000 a year.

Clinton obviously meant that he had just stolen the SC election and it would help his campaign stand on the back of the poor and crippled so he could steal all the elections of Super Tuesday, too. (Boost means steal and stand on the back of),

Clinton admits to stealing and abusing the poor -- call the newspapers! Call the networks! Call the pundits! We've got your agenda for next week.

9. Bill's comeback in '92 wouldn't have gone anywhere if Jesse Jackson had run again.

He would have failed to win much of the South with Jesse Jackson carrying the black vote, and with that his political base for the nomination.

... for sure, although I'm not sure I would go quite that far. There was a cluster of contests right around that time, and Harkin bowed out.
