You've come a long way baby...Now let Bill take over...
This may be the most absurd subliminal message a campaign has ever offered. We see an extremely talented, viable woman candidate for president who by all accounts is genius (whether or not we personally like her), needing her strong hubby to come in and push her over the top.

Its hard to imagine a worse message if the Clinton campaign wins the nomination campaigning as they have - that if you're a woman candidate going for President, when the going gets tough (as it did after Iowa), you shouldn't bother trying to win it on your own as a "man" would - instead you need to bring out your more successful, charismatic and ego-driven husband to take over and beat up anyone who says anything bad about you. Can you say, "Subliminal Panic Attack?"

At this point its pretty much embedded in the nation's psyche that its not Hillary vs Obama - its "Bill and Hillary" vs Obama. That Edwards' SC concession speech essentially started, "I want to join Hillary and Bill in congratulating Obama..." pretty much hammers the point home.

"You've come a long way, baby" - just make sure you have your big strong hubby to guide you to the finish line when the going gets tough.

4. Well, I consider myself a feminist
in that I have always worked for equal pay, no job discrimination based on gender, etc. Don't care if someone calls me "Ms" or "Mrs" as that doesn't put food on the table. And what we see here is the old political tradition started back in Texas when "Ma" Somebody took over the job of governor from her husband, Lurleen Wallace taking over for her husband in Alabama--in other words, a woman not standing on her own two feet. IMHO, it was a bad call to let Mr. Clinton become an attack dog. Weakened his wife's position greatly.

6. Exactly!
If there ever were a woman candidate who clearly has the chops to stand on her own, its Hillary. The decision might have been good in the NH, Nevada short term, but it truly hurts her standing in the long term. She should have just weathered the storm. Better yet, she should have just stayed positive and challenged Obama on real issues. This didn't happen.

5. Just to be clear, I think Hillary used to be a great candidate...
But instead of focusing on competence and common sense compromises which have characterized her time in the Senate, she has gone out of her way to push divisiveness once the campaign got tough. Worse, she has both played the woman card, while relying on her strong hubby to take on her opponent. This really is a ridiculous approach for her to take. The subliminal message it sends is rather clear.

And yeah, feminists should be pissed, but not at me. Why they've decided to highlight Bill like they have I'll never know, but it truly does diminish Hillary. This isn't my narrative - this is the one being written by the MSM - and for good reason.

12. Welcome as well.
I am a feminist who has huge reservations about Ms. Clinton. It is not betraying your sex to look at these things objectively, in fact, it seems to me that's the point of feminism. We are humans, no more, no less, and as such are not always enlightened or omnipotent. If we are waiting for elected women to clean up this shit we might be waiting a long time. We have such outstanding expamles of the groundbreaking female politician to go before us...like Maggie Thatcher (although to her credit, Dennis stayed in the backgroud) and Nancy Pelosi, I'm sure there are more.

....It's just with Barack he can inspire Americans to do so much that the oppurtunity may not come round again.

Barack "They say I need experience need to be seasoned and stewed a little then eventually I will of lost all my optimism and be just like the rest"

2. Welcome to DU!
:hi:

I think a lot of folks will see it as you do. It only weakens Clinton in the eyes of the public.

10.  Reminds me of another cigarette commercial
from the '60's touting "a silly millimeter longer." Virginia Slims brings in reinforcements from Benson & Hedges, or something like that.

K&R!

11. What I can't understand is why a feminist like Hillary Clinton
wouldn't have seen this coming. It's puzzling to me.

13. I disagree. They were always a package deal. Even/especially during his campaigning.

On the campaign trail in 1992, Bill used to joke about it. Vote for me and get "two for the price of one," he chuckled.

But it's always nice to attack her as though this is somehow related to her gender. :eyes:

14. I think the package deal sales pitch works better with Bill on top...
With Hillary, especially considering the way Bill entered (right after Obama won, and threatened in NH), it really creates a bad narrative.

16. I'm a feminist and I
agree with you. Her campaign has turned into an anti feminist campaign. I was trying to think of Mrs Wallace's name. Hillary is perfectly capable on her own. They have some weird dynamics going on in that relationship.

campaign. Pres. Clinton should have stayed out of it. She is suppose to be the candidate running for president. He has been too visible and way too involved. Maybe that was part of their strategy, but I for one only want one president not two trying to run the country.
