Obama isn't likable "enough"
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 03:09 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
I like Obama's speeches but he's bumbling and disorganized in a debate setting and in interviews he comes off as somewhat angry or annoyed or something I can't put my finger on. If you saw This Week you know what I mean.

Point is, he's not a "likable" candidate. That will matter in the general election. Here's how I predict it will go.

McCain will talk non stop for a week about do we want "a candidate with one year of experience in the senate before he started running for president." Obama's numbers drop to 45%.

Obama will be interviewed and debated and people will see what his personality is like. Numbers drop another 10% in month 2.

A candidate running with no experience trying to be the "inspirational" candidate has to be likable.

Election over.

6. no, I've said before I don't "like" any of them but Obama must be liked.
Clinton is neutral in the likability but Obama would need to be liked to be the "inspiring" candidate.

31. Hillary reminds white men of all those white women managers
Hillary has an uncanny knack for reminding white men of all those under-qualified, over-promoted, affimative action white women managers that they worked for circa 1975-1995.

The animosity is huge and deeply felt.

She probably evokes a similar reaction from blacks, who started to benefit from affirmative action in the early '70s before it was co-opted by white women. Black men and black families were particularly hurt, since management then went on to favor the black women over men in order to get "two-fers" to better their statistics.

Now that Clintons' campaign is taking on the flavor of an extra-constitutional restoration of the Bill Clinton presidency, it starts to remind men of him.

While men were being sent to sensitivity training and treading carefully in order not to be accused of sexual harrassment charges, the phony hypocrite was getting hummers in the Oval Office.

48. I'd rather go quail hunting with Cheney than have a beer with Bush
IIRC, Bush went to prep school in New England, and then went to Yale, where he was president of his fraternity, member of Skull & Bones, and a cheerleader.

Not the sort of person you'd want to have a beer with.

I voted for Kerry, and he seems like someone to have a beer with.

53. Younger women managers are more fully-qualified
Lots of young women managers are truely qualified and excellent at their jobs.

And in politics we have women governors and other high office holders that have attained their positions on merit.

But Hillary's qualifications are extremely dubious, and without being Bill's wife, she wouldn't be in the running.

There is just something I can't put my finger on that I don't trust. Maybe I am just cynical. I keep seeing these people follow him like Zombies and it creeps me out. No politician is worthy of worship like that. My family and friends say the same thing. There is just something we do not like. The last time we saw people think a politician was the next best thing to Jesus, was the Republicans with Bush. We all know where that got us. I just don't really know him and I don't think the media has vetted him that well to give us a really accurate view.

My god people, some of your pathetic attempts to smear the "other guy" are really mind-blowing.

Not likable? Give me a freaking break. Every single person I've talked to who has come back from an Obama event, and yes I've talked to quite a few, has been simply mesmerized by his charisma and ability to instill a feeling of hope and energy into the crowd.

He's probably got the most charisma factor going of ANY Democrat we had running since Bill Clinton, and I'm even including my candidate, whom I strongly support - John Edwards - when I say that.

There may be reasons not to support Obama, but this isn't one of them.

or, it could be the fact that while he tries to speakadult ... his thought organization is really like that of a 12 year old (and i will add addict) who has trouble, as you say, putting his thoughts together in an organized coherent fashion. sometimes it seems as if he is wondering around in space, looking for the words that might fit the clearing or the fog. people from caroline kennedy, to ted kennedy to many others are not really paying attention...and should he get the nomination and win the elections (which up against any republican i don't think he will) we will soon see george w. bush resurface in the person of barack obama.

His family couldn't have been put together better by an advertising firm.....

He's positive and upbeat. Hope generally beats fear in American politics.

McCain's sound bite of "we will stay in Iraq for a million years" will be played over and over; e-mails reminding every GOP evangelical of all the reasons they hate him will be widely circulated. McCain will counter with war hero status, experience, and consrevative voting record. Obama will counter with McCain = Washington Insider accusations, and slam GOP handling of economy , Katrina, War, Enron, US Attornies -- additionally, McCain's long voting record will be dissected and every speech he's ever made will be poured over for inconsistencies. Rove attack machine will smear Obama on Muslimness.

In the end, America will vote for the taller, better looking candidate. Victory Obama.
