2. Obama embodies blackness and Clinton embodies womanness. It is
silly to think that blackness and womanness will not be a factor--to some degree for some people. But it is one factor amongst many others.

8. but
I'm a female and Clinton would be the last on my list, and my feelings have NOTHING to do with her femaleness. I would be thrilled to vote for a female with whom I agreed, politically. Jeanne Kirkpatrick could run for prez and she would never get my vote.

On the other hand, I really love the positive attitude Obama displays. I love that he's african american and an entirely viable candidate for office. however, I think he is either facile or playing about unity when you look at the dirty tricks that have come from the republicans for years (and dems, too, no doubt), and when you know the hatred the religious right has for liberals in general. how is he going to deal with their hatred? or with race hatred?

I would love it if those people could be marginalized out of hearing range, but since they form an important part of the republican base, I don't think that's gonna happen, and it would be naive to give them the benefit of the doubt.

But my candidate is John Edwards. Not because he's white, or because he's male. It's because he speaks the truth about issues that everyone left of Genghis Ghan knows are the underlying problems in this nation. I wish Obama had the same message. Because of the history of the Clintons, I wouldn't trust Hillary if she said the same thing...and nothing can overcome the dynasty issue that disturbs me the most. I don't want Jeb in '12.

as far as a candidate's superficial appeal, I like Obama. I would love to have either an African-American or woman prez. But in terms of issues, I like Edwards, IN SPITE OF the fact that he's a white male.

but of course, I'm not representative of anything.

10. Well, you speak for me too.
I would love so much to vote for the first woman or black president... but Edwards is singing my song. I'm voting for him despite the fact that he is a rich, white, pretty man. :)
