I think we better be prepared for a republican president.
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 11:49 PM by Neshanic
This is not good. Actually it never was, and now it is becoming more apparent that we have three candidates that will have an extremely difficult time against a McCain. We have been presented the comical situation of the possiblity of the first woman running for president that has such high negative numbers, it would be hard to find someone with higher, and the first African American that has no experience whatsoever. The last person is now considered wreckage from the last election.

If McCain is the nominee for the republicans, we will be hammered on either having a shrill harpy that has a husband hanging around, or a person with no experience at all. These will just be the kinder things that the republicans will say.

As usual, the basic info that I am not a troll, paid or otherwise, and will faithfully vote for our candidate.

It just does not look good right now. How we got to this absurd situation is now beyond comprehension. If we do indeed lose this presidency to a republican, there better be a complete dismantling of the Democratic Party higher ups and the DLC should be shuttered.

is right wing smearing in left wing blogs.
They've been at it since summer.
MSM is kicking in.

It's the same crap they pulled with Howard Dean.
They always turn dems against their power candidates.

Hillary Clinton is brilliant and highly motivated.
Barack needs to curtail his whining.

Caroline Kennedy needs to get her head out of romance novels
and work in the real world like HRC.

68. "Get her head out of her romance novels"? You don't know much about her, do you?
She graduated from Harvard and Columbia Law School. Per Wikipedia:

"Kennedy is an attorney, editor, and writer. She is one of the founders of the Profiles in Courage Award, given annually to a person who exemplifies the type of courage examined in her father's Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name. The award is generally given to elected officials who, acting in accord with their conscience, risk their careers by pursuing a larger vision of the national, state or local interest in opposition to popular opinion or powerful pressures from their constituents. In May 2002, she presented an unprecedented Profiles in Courage Award to representatives of the NYPD, the New York City Fire Department, and the military as representatives of all of the people who acted to save the lives of others during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Kennedy is currently President of the Kennedy Library Foundation, a Director of both the Commission on Presidential Debates and of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Honorary Chairman of the American Ballet Theatre. Kennedy is also an adviser to the Harvard Institute of Politics, a living memorial to her father.

In addition, Kennedy has represented her family at the funeral services of former Presidents Ronald Reagan in 2004 and Gerald Ford in 2007, and at the funeral service of former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson in 2007.

Caroline Kennedy also represented her family at the dedication of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park in Little Rock, Arkansas in November 2004."

It's pretty damned insulting to call such an accomplished woman a clueless romance novel reader. She obviously knows both of the Clintons, but endorsed Obama anyway. I suspect that if she'd endorsed the Clintons you'd be singing a different tune.

30. My pessimism? Some items.
First the MSM. Entrenched and not willing to give the clear picture, this fight for the presidency will be reduced again to the lowest common denominator as usaul.

Hilary issuses, and we all know what they will throw. everything and the kitchen sink.

Obama and experience. The MSM and the "terror" issue will keep us in a state of panic with a few well placed items before the election.

I just do not believe in a populace that consistantly votes against it's best interests will suddenly change.

We are coming into a period that if we win, and that a big if, the conservative movement in this country will officially begin the swing back to a more liberal era to come. They know it, and it's the last fight this country will have internally. We loose, and the country's baby steps to a more liberal future will be strangled in the crib.

If you want to prepare for another GOP presidency, go for it. But any of the top three candidates can beat McCain, and making that happen seems like a better use of one's time, to me.

McCain is plenty beatable, MSM and all.

55. They forgot to include the all-important 14th key:
the hackable, unauditable electronic voting system key, and the 15th key, the intense and effective voter suppression key.

We won in 2000 and 2004, but that didn't prevent us from "losing" then, and there's no guarantee we won't "lose" again, even if we win, because our party's leaders just will not effectively address the issue of untrustworthy electronic voting machines.

Nor is there any real effort to counter the Republicans' voter suppression tactics.

16. Hear, hear!
DLC is a subversive organization, a cancer on the party which needs to be excised.

"This is why the DLC is dangerous. For all their claims of supposedly wanting to help Democrats, they employ people like Marshall Wittman who specifically try to undermine the Democratic Party, even if it means he has to publicly defecate out the most rank and easily-debunkable lies. They reguarly give credence to the right wing's agenda and its worst, most unsupportable lies. They are the real force that tries to make sure this country is a one party state and that Democrats never really challenge the Republicans in a serious way." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/why-the-dlc-is-so-dangero_b_13640.html

I am an Edwards supporter, but there is no doubt in my mind that Obama would rout McCain. Look at the votes in South Carolina, a Republican state. Obama had more votes in the primary (295,000) than Clinton (141,000) and McCain (147,000) put together.

McCain is also losing it, and will have many moments during the campaign where people will truly question his fitness to be President.

27. While I prefer Edwards.....
I think that any of our candidates will win against any of the Repukes, and here's why.....

It took a long time because Americans are slow and uneducated, but FINALLY, Americans are sick and tired of paying through the nose for a war that only serves to further enrich the rich while our infrastructure goes to hell in a handbasket. It took forever because our corporate media prefers Americans be interested in Britney Spears than in knowing we're being scammed, but finally Americans have noticed that while the rich have never been richer, the rest of us are worse off every day. It took years, but Americans finally got it that while Repuke presidents assured us that great jobs were out there and the economy was doing great, a huge number of us were barely able to make ends meet and couldn't find jobs much better than those at a fast food place.

Yes, Americans are VERY slow, and very gullible, but now Americans are doing very badly. Hunger makes it just a little bit more difficult to believe bullshit, even if it's told by really good liars.

another. All that crap was quite obvious. Not that each didn't enjoy doing it to the other, but it was obvious to the rest of us. SOMETIMES it brought up issues that should have been discussed, and sometimes it was not just petty, but outright lies.

I personally think if this were a perfect world, somebody would have already beaten the crap out of Rove in public so the nation could laugh their asses off at him. :-)

39. I'll take Obama vs that old mo-fo any day - heres why
first - The guy is older than Regan.
second - Obama has more experience in public office than Edwards or Clinton - not to mention his real life experience as a community organizer.
third - Obama will bring out more new voters than our party has every seen. He is doing in now in the primaries, and he will do it again in the general. Just look at what he has done with my generation (you know 18-29 that made up 7% of the vote in 2004) 22% of the caucus goers in Iowa were 17-29, just as many as 65+. Obama will more new Democrats and that would equal a bigger majority in congress.
fourth - America is ready for a Democrat, not a George Bush suck up.
fifth - Obama will kill him in the debates. Watch an Obama speech followed by McCain... lol
sixth - Bring him on.

Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 12:27 AM by ngant17
Did you hear him make a sentence about some politicians being "more equal than others" during his speech at Sun City, Florida today (Saturday)? Did he realize he was borrowing a quote from George Orwell's "Animal Farm"? It was somewhat disgusting for me to hear it.

I think in that speech he was referring to his buddy, Florida Sen. Mel Martinez, who endorsed him. McCain said the Martinez was "more equal than others". What a trip!

Wasn't that the honcho pig in "Animal Farm" that talked about the same thing, that "some people are more equal than others"?

That is the exact quote from Orwell's "Animal Farm". McCain used almost those exact words when he praised his Senator friend Mel Martinez, FL at this Sun City(Tampa-Saint Petersburg metro area) rally on Saturday, 26 Jan 08. Borrowing a quote from Orwell's famous book -- was I the only one to be taken aback by this?

IMHO McCain's foot is now officially in mouth. More to come, stay tuned.

43. I beg to differ...
There has been no catastrophic breakdown of our candidates, and while I'm still awaiting some substance from them, I really don't expect much until the field is cleared and we have a nominee.

The only ones who can't win, from either side, are the ones who aren't running. let's not forget that the GOP tossed a lot of faith in Thompson, and he petered out the minute he opened his mouth. That was their big shot, now they are going w/second stringers that are having a hard time out Reaganizing each other. They have nothing, and I'm hearing it every day out here in Nebraska. If the folks of Nebraska feel this is a lost cause....believe me, it's a lost cause.

I, personally, am not enamored by any of our standing candidates, but this is just a splash in the pond. When our nominee gets to grapple w/the GOP, what do they have...bush? Best present we could have gotten!

They have nothing! Absolutely nothing!

Don't get me wrong, it's gonna be a tough fight, this might be the lowest our pols have ever gone, but even that is a plus...perhaps, out of the slime and offerings that shall arise from the sewr...a new and better process may arise...people are pretty disgusted now, and with a more progressive congress, anything can happen.

Then, we have the running mates...strange as it may seem, they are important...and if the GOP nominee chooses a fool, all the better...:D

Let's not be too hasty...we have a way to go, and almost anything can happen...:)

47. I also beg to differ. Being from Arizona, I can understand how you might think that way.

However, at least 75% of this country sees gee-dumbya bush* and rethuglicans as the WRONG DIRECTION. That is not just my opinion, that is verifiable polling. McCain is the rethuglican sacrificial lamb. He doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell (August 1, Noon rush hour, I-10, Phoenix). All anyone has to do is point out they ARE NOT A RETHUGLICAN. We've all seen the pathetic photo of McCain hugging gee-dumbya like he's found his long-lost mama---we'll see that photo many, many times to come. I will concede that if HRC is the nominee, she is an immediate rethuglican rallying point. But still, too what avail? I think the "I hate Hillary" rethugican contingent will be drowned out big time by the "I hate W" contingent. Make no mistake, gee-dumbya has been a major embarrassment to rethuglicans. He is the poster child for EVERYTHING wrong with their party. He could not have fucked up his two-term pResidency any worse than if he actually tried to.

62. 6 years in a North Vietnamese Prison Camp? Not put thru the wringer?
We underestimate John McCain at our own peril. He CAN and SHOULD be defeated on the issues, but attacking him personally won't work. Not against a guy with McCain's story. They can get away with it in the Republican primary, a Democrat will not be given room to personally attack a war hero.

I worry about McCain. I think he'd chew Hillary up and spit her out. 45 state landslide. Obama is a different story. An Al Gore or Joe Biden could beat him in a close race. I don't like the way this is all headed. This won't be the cake walk so many here seem to believe.

74. The "political" wringer.
I think McCain is over-estimated at this point. That said, I'm not supporting Hillary in the primary.

53. Not worried about it at all.
Any one of the 3 candidates will win against a Republican, including McCain. My only concern is that HRC brings out the base in such big numbers that lower races may be impacted. I'm sure she can win the Presidency, though.

54. Be prepared...
Bill Clinton had zero national experience when he was elected, so that means nothing. After tonight, it is clear to me that Obama is going to get the nomination, and that he will be elected President. I prefer Edwards on the issues, but this kind of momentum is unstoppable. McCain lost all his credibility long ago, and is going to be seen as just another old white man in a suit. Hillary looks more cynical and desperate every day. Obama has winner written all over him. I'm not worried.

59. McCain doesn't have enough hair
to get elected president.

Historical importance of hair in Presidential elections:

http://www.wolfhair.com/home/presidents.shtml

"The candidate with the fullest head of hair almost always wins the presidential race, at least since campaigns began being televised. The only exception since 1960: when George H.W. Bush defeated the much hairier Michael Dukakis in 1988. Then again, the elder Bush was much taller than his rival, and Dukakis had that "helmet head" thing working against him."

69. Actually, I think Obama would win if he goes up against McCain.
Obama's "change" message from the past to the future is exaggeraged to the max when you look at John McCain. Add to that a real dislike among many Republicans for McCain (although those same Republicans might be highly motivated to vote against Hillary).

71. The latest crystal ball gazing.
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 11:28 AM by Neshanic
"New data for the Democratic race in Florida shows Clinton still on top, but her lead is a bit smaller than earlier in the week. Dick Morris believes that Bill Clinton’s temper is starting to hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Exit polling data shows that may have been the case during Obama’s big win in South Carolina.

Looking ahead on the Primary calendar, Obama leads in Georgia. However, Clinton leads Missouri, Alabama, California, New York, and New Jersey.

Rasmussen Markets data gives Clinton a 62.8% chance of winning the Democratic nomination and Obama a 36.0% chance. On the Republican side, McCain is now given a 55.5% chance of winning the nomination. Mitt Romney is at 29.4% followed by Giuliani at 8.6% and Mike Huckabee at 3.0%. Numbers in this paragraph are from a prediction market, not a poll."

Not a poll as said above, but prediction, and we can only hope that the McCain mumbers are wrong. If Mitsy gets the nod, I will become more optimistic. There is no way in Hell that the south religious nut squads will vote for a Mormon.

If it is indeed McCain we will have the fight of our lives for the White House. It will be epic in it's dirty tricks from the republicans.
