53. What?
I really don't follow your logic...the Clinton's turn this into a race issue, Obama defends himself in the South where those kind of tactics should work, the Whites even reject the race baiting and all of this is Obama's fault? That logic is downright Bush-like!

is because of the post that you just made. When I pointed out the 22 pt. spread between him and Hillary in Florida, I was told that it wasn't that big. Hypocrites.

54. Hmmm...
Yeah well funny thing about Florida, *SOME* candidates follow the rules set by the Democratic Party and won't campaign there. *Other* candidates on the other hand care more about their own political aspirations then the rules of the party. So with that in mind, yeah 22% isn't a whole hell of a lot.

41. The OP is correct. See my post above w/ link to the CNN exit poll #s.
Blacks were 54% of the voters. You just have to add a few numbers to obtain the same results the OP did (and if you assume that non-blacks were whites (a small % of voters in SC are Latino or other, some of which could be either black or white).

The non-black votes that Obama did NOT win were split between Clinton and Edwards.

Clinton got more votes than Edwards because she did better with blacks than did Edwards.

He also beat Clinton in the women vote. So yes they are facts, just the facts as you spun them.

Let's compare...
Clinton lost 81% of the black vote, and 63% of the "white" (non-black) vote.
Edwards lost 97% of the black vote, and 61% of the "white" (non-black) vote.
Pretty marginal differences except in regards to Edwards inability to attract black voters, and black support for Obama.

Though one exit poll stat really sticks out...

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/epolls/#SCDEM

Looks like Obama received more votes from "white" (non-black) voters than both Edwards and Clinton COMBINED for the 18-29 age group. Ok, so Obama's numbers go down as the age of the "non-black" voters goes up, but we're talking about the South -- and his numbers aren't all that far behind Clinton and Edwards in the demographic.

edit: p.s. Obama's heavy black support might help account for the severity of the ass-kicking he handed his competitors, but not for his victory. He more than doubled Clinton's vote count, and that's due to a broad coalition of voters.
