4. Dan Rather said...
that Edwards will scrap his trip to Texas if he loses all 10 tonight, and he will go home tomorrow and concede.

(We get CBS news at 7:00 here. Go figure!)

10. Here is a question. If Edwards drop can Kerry claim the nomination?
Yes, he will be the nominee. Does he have to wait for Sharpton and Kucinich to concede in order to claim victory in the primary? Will Kucinich trash him if he says he is the winner of the primary?

27. I don't think he has to wait.
Because I think they'd be mathematically eliminated anyway after tonight. Not to mention, no one's ever considered them as having a shot. And, acknowledging this, who'll really pay attention if they DO trash him?

There's been so many things thats held us down.
But now it looks like things are finally comin' around.
I know we've got, a long long way to go,
and where we'll end up, I don't know.
But we won't let nothin' hold us back,
we're putting our selves together,
we're polishing up our act!
If you felt we've been held down before,
I know you'll refuse to be held down anymore!

Don't you let nothing, nothing,
Stand in your way!
I want ya'll to listen, listen,
to every word I say, every word I say!

Ain't No Stoppin Us Now!
We're on the move!
Ain't No Stoppin Us Now!
We've got the groove!

Damn hard for a Clark guy. In the end it was the General's endorsement that tipped the balance for me.

It is time for Kerry to reach out to all of the other candidates and make this a National Unity/Democratic Unity, "Big Tent" campaign.

It is also time for all of the other remaining candidates to pull out and for all Democratic candidates, past and present, to back our nominee.

The Lieutenant is now our General.

No retreat, no surrender.

My first vote was in '72 (we were the generation that couldn't vote 'til we were 21--I've always wondered how *that* might have been). as a matter-0f-fact, I've also wondered if we could make up that lost vote, if history might have been different.

in Florida. I mean I gave every spare minute after working a full very hard day everyday and then i gave up my weekends on top of that. I paid for my own gas in my pick up truck planting yard signs, drove hundreds of miles in extremely rural areas of Florida. I gave as much change as I could spare as well. Only to lose to Prince Jeb!Was I bummed and burnt out. But hey man, we need to pull together to get the job done, I am sorry your candidate lost, I believe that he will want you to carry on the good fight. I was undecided up until Edwards annouced that he pulled out. Lets do it man, lets kick shrubs ass!

Before Iowa it was pretty tough. People thought I was nuts and kept telling me "my guy" wasn't looking too good.

Things have changed. I am so excited now. Even Bush has called Kerry to congratulate him on his wins. THis is awesome!

I'm sorry to see Edwards go, on one hand. On the other hand, it's time to consolidate our strengths. Time for Democrats to organize to really kick the boy king out of the White House.

Congratulations, Kerry supporters. This is sweet!

48. I have held out till now, I am officially on board with Kerry!
Since Edwards announced that he is dropping out and I live in Florida. Our primaries are not until March 9th, I have always said I like most of the candidates that were feilded. Now it is time to get on Kerry train and defeat George Bush. I invite all Dems to unite and bring down this regime. I am going to check in with Kerry campaign headquarters in my area and offer my time and services. I own some commercial property in a key location. It is an empty wooded lot on a heavily traveled road. I will ask them if they want to put a Kerry/Clark Kerry/Dean Kerry/Edwards Kerry/Kuchich For President and Vice President Billboard on it. I also have a pick up truck that can carry a buttload of yard signs and literature. YeeHaw lets get this show on the road!

I lived in Maine for ten years, I was in the Navy, stationed at NAS Brunswick. I loved it up there, just damned cold for my blood. Besides that, the snow gets to deep and ya know what they say. There's only two things do in Maine during the winter, hunt and make love, and sometimes the snow gets to deep to hunt!!! I do miss Moodys Diner sometimes, great beans!

Many ups and downs - and you guys hung in there big time.

Kerry was extremely classy tonight to bring the cameras in as he watched the Edwards concession speech. The media whores have been in high dudgeon trying to paint a picture of conflict between the 2 camps. Kerry's move put the kibosh on that. Good on you, JK.

We are all Kerry folks, now. Let's beat the skin off those criminals in the White House!

Kerry Cements Nomination; Edwards Out
5 minutes ago Add Politics - AP to My Yahoo!

By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer

John Kerry (news - web sites) cemented the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, driving rival John Edwards (news - web sites) from the race with a string of Super Tuesday triumphs that left the Massachusetts senator standing alone against President Bush (news - web sites).

"I hope we can have a great debate about the future of our country and the direction our nation needs to go," Kerry told The Associated Press.

Triumphant by historic margins, Kerry won 24 of 27 elections in every region of the nation — from Edwards' Southern strongholds to the jobs-poor Midwest states of Ohio and Michigan to the growing Southwest battlegound of Arizona and to his own New England base.

In state after state, Democrats said their top priority was a candidate who could defeat Bush, a wartime president with a $100 million-plus campaign treasury. Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran, won an overwhelming number of their votes, and now leads a relatively united party against Bush.

I fairly well expect Edwards to be offered the VP slot...

Recent polls show that if Edwards is the VP choice, that Bush will be toast in November.

I expect it to be announced within a week.

Chsck the latest national poll:

If the 2004 presidential election were being held today and the candidates were John Kerry for president and John Edwards for vice president, the Democrats, and George W. Bush for president and Dick Cheney for vice president, the Republicans, would you vote for Kerry and Edwards or Bush and Cheney?"

.

Bush/
Cheney Kerry/
Edwards Won't
Vote (vol.) Depends
(vol.) Don't
Know
% % % % %
ALL 42 50 1 1 6
Republicans 88 8 1 2 1
Democrats 8 88 0 1 3
Independents 41 44 3 2 10

http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm

Hard to read here, but If Edwards is the VP they beat Bush

Kerry/Edwards 50 %

Bush/Cheney 42 %

99. What about Graham as VP...

He's from Florida and was anti-Iraq-war and he was also on a some security comittee (crap can't remember the name - homeland security related in some way) and him and Dean were good buddies from the very beginning and he's also run on fiscal responsibility and he was also once Gov of Florida. Lot of people love him to death. He also was calling for the impeachment of Dubya when he was on Meet the Press.

Quite an impressive reume in my opinion,

Let's stay united and vote these corrupt, incompetents out of office and send Dubya back to Crawford, Texas--where he can clear brush 'til the cow come home!

I've been behind Kerry since Clark dropped out. Alway felt Kerry was one of the good guys, though, so it wasn't hard to get on board. The question in my mind, though, is what does it feel like right to be a Kerry supporter from the start? You were the one that hung in when his poll numbers were in the dumper and no one even seemed to notice that he was in the race. I'd think that tonight is an indescribable joy for you folks..but please try to describe anyway. :)

82. It is all of that and more.
I've had this name on DU since mid 2002. My daughter got me a Kerry T shirt for Christmas in 2002. I guess when his poll numbers tanked I felt the same way the Dean people did later, but I tried to keep the faith. I could never bring myself to trash another candidate but I did get quite upset with some of their supporters.

There are a lot of us here that never gave up and gave each other strength.

Of course the highlight was seeing Kerry and Clark in Madison Wi. on Feb.13th. I am disappointed that Clark is not mentioned in the media as VP very often. They were magic together and I think they would clean up big time.

I've been uncommitted up to now. As of tonight, the Democratic Party has spoken and I am falling into line.

I urge all others to join us, regardless of one's first choice might have been or what one's personal ideology might be. Bush is a threat to that for which our Founding Fathers fought; never before has it been so important to defeat an occupant of the White House. Never before has America been so betrayed by those who presume to be our leaders. This is a battle to preserve that which has made America great for two centuries.

We must prevail.

Again, congrats to JFK. You're destined...

134. We were well served by the primary process
I say that as a former Edwards supporter, and now a full-on Kerry supporter.

I thought that Edwards' ability to articulate the Democratic message would be the key to victory in November.

The primary season voters took account of that. They liked both candidates. Seriousness, strength and experience took top honors.

Here's hoping for a Kerry/Edwards ticket leading to victory.

The people have spoken. Let them speak again in Novermber.

143. Edwards supporter, saying "Congratulations!"
and best of luck.

I understand that Senator Kerry is beginning his VP search. While I have no interest in the Vice-Presidency, I understand that each must do what he can for the party. I'm staying off the phone so the line is open ;-)
