I don't think the white vote in SC is necessarily representative of the nation at large
The talking heads are already spinning that Obama has to get 20% or above of the white vote for it to be considered a credible victory.

South Carolina white voters demographically are not the same as white voters in, say, New York or California. Income levels, for one thing, are vastly different.

If he gets only a fraction of the white vote in SC, I don't think it is a good prognosticator of how well he may do down the road.

The white demographics on Super Tuesday speak of very different voters with very different attitudes. Ones that may favor Obama substantially more than in SC.

1. In California, white Democratic voters do not vote based on race
Obama supporters are to a great extent very young here in California -- young and whatever is the equivalent of "Yuppie" - - up and striving young people.

Hillary is getting a lot of support from women because she is a woman.

It is really troubling to see these divisions along these lines. How do Obama and Hillary propose to unify the party after this melee is over? And I think that some of the melee is media manufactured for purposes of sales.

I support Edwards.

5. I wonder the same thing
The party is going to be divided big time over this, and it won't be easy to bring them together if either Obama or Hillary win the nomination. Right not both of them are "dividing" the party, not bringing it together. I think it's ironic that the two who could be the "first" black or the first woman, are doing more damage than good to the party!

3. Agreed. In part because a lot of GOP-ers will probably vote in the Dem primary
They always did. here's a post on demographics I saved

Interesting demographics about SC. From a state government site. I believe they are current.

Total registered voters in SC: 2,246,242

Total voted in Repub primary: 442,789

That leaves: 1,803,453

Of that non-white voters: 629,000

That leaves total white voters 1,174,353

Non-white voters in SC have shown up by some 20% more than white voters.

The demographics in the exit polling on Saturday will tell all about how the two groups voted.

4. Right.
I nominated this, because I think it is very important that we watch the news on tv, and read the papers, but interpret the facts for ourselves.

6. Even as a Hillary fan, don't you think it's a shame how the MSM is spinning it?
Be honest.

Your post is exactly right.

9. He won't be able to garner enough votes to win in the general election.
And that's what matters. Democrats decided that it is more important to run an African American or a woman than to back the most qualified person for the job, and that's why they will lose, and well they should. They simply aren't smart enough to win. And so good people will die and the earth will continue to warm all so that the American Democrats can show the world that they're politically correct.

10. He handily won the IA whites. He came in a close second among NH whites. I think he's good.
