2. Where's the "DU would've Exploded" option?
I voted for the second option listed above.

http://thehnic.wordpress.com/2007/03/13/who-is-obamas-cousin-pookie/

"Who is Obama’s ‘Cousin Pookie’?"

snip: "The Obama campaign didn’t respond to requests for details. But Newhouse News Service asked some of America’s best minds on black culture, language and politics.

In their interviews and e-mails, Pookie emerges as a stock character of the black popular imagination, a name that has come to personify the kind of layabout kin who, if endearing, is also a source of some embarrassment and consternation to his more successful relations. And, it turns out, in his use of Pookie, Obama reveals something about himself."

3. Is WINNING so important to you that you're willing to sacrifice all semblance of good character?
How shameful. I truly feel that many of those who support a 3rd Clintonian DLC stacked Executive Branch are playing the politics of division. And yes, it's damn shameful when it emanates from fellow democrats.

Don't you dare spew invectives about the RNC's Lee Atwater and his prodigy, Karl Rove because TODAY, you are ONE *WITH* THEM!

6. beyond me
That logic is beyond me. Of course it would be different if Hillary used it, shes white. Totally different dynamic and cannot be compared. You have no sense of humor at all, obviously it was just a joke, a mild one at that. Only a hillbot would take issue with such a benign thing as this.

7. You misunderstand. I don't take issue with the use of Pookie and Ray-Ray. None at all.
I'm simply trying to understand if those who say it's not a racial reference have a consistent position.

My question doesn't reference whether it should be said by either candidate or both.

11. Or neither. My poll is not asking about whether it should be used, ever or conditionally.

10. I've never understood either name
to have any racial overtones whatsoever.

Talk about an overblown "fight".

13. I can't say I've ever thought about either name myself, so I'm trying to sort out what
seems to be the conflicting accounts of its meaning.

21. Obama said it because he knew he could get away with it since he's black.
But at least he didn't say something like "Grab your homeys and get them to vote for me!"
