Elizabeth Edwards: "I think my choices have made me happier.
I think I'm more joyful than she is."

Remember when that happened? Where was all the outrage over a candidate's spouse throwing a little mud? Or is only Bill Clinton prevented from doing so?

1. True. And Edwards said as much to his credit.

2. Yes he did
to his credit.

And I wasn't at all put out by Mrs. Edwards' comments. I just want to point out that it's ridiculous to attack Bill Clinton for campaigning for his wife.

4. I didn't realize Mrs. Edwards had been president.
And where's the mud?

6. Bill Clinton being an ex-president
doesn't require him to behave differently than any other spouse.

The double-standard is ridiculous. People are just mad that Bill's good at it.

Republicans hated him for years because he was good at it, too.

11. Nothing requires anyone to do anything. Except maybe decency...
...and a sense of responsibility as the Party's "leader."

So where's the mud in Mrs. Edwards' statement?

12. Nonsense
You want to hobble Clinton because you don't like her, and you resent that she has such a powerful campaigner on her side.

Should we make sure John Kerry doesn't ever campaign for Obama? As a former nominee, shouldn't he be held to your imaginary standard?

And the mud was in the implication that Clinton was somehow less happy with her choices than Elizabeth Edwards. Edwards apologized for it, so I guess she didn't think it was as innocent as you do.

The hold one spouse to some imagined level of "decency" is just dumb.

3. I Think It's Quite A Different Thing
I could be imagining it, but believe that it was in response to a question specifically comparing Hillary and Elizabeth - something like "Both of you went to law school, but Hillary went on to practice law, etc., and you became a stay-at-home mom: does that bother you?"

In any case, it's clearly an opinion, not a dissemblance of fact. And it's not a comment on a trait that has anything to do with the presidencey.

15. Well, I certainly think Mrs. Edwards is more joyful than Mrs. Clinton.
Mrs. Clinton has had to endure a lot of crap, and to me she doesn't come off as a satified person. I wish she was happier. Mrs. Edwards, though having had her own life stumbling blocks, is just full of life.. You forget over and over again that she's fighting cancer and has overcome a death of a son. But she glows and is radiant and John looks at her.. She is his inspiration and its beautiful. It may have sounded harsh in retrospect.. but it seems to me Mrs. Clinton has endured to reach the prize she most wants to possess. Its odd that it a Presidency.

29. I haven't seen Clinton
say anything personally hurtful about the other candidates like this.

And I wasn't bothered at ALL by what Edwards' said - did you read my posts? My point was that it's ridiculous to hold Bill Clinton to a standard that other spouses aren't held to.

Surely your personal happiness should yield to the good Senator from New York's ambitions?

doesn't mean it missed. It just means you disagree with me.

But I maintain that Bill Clinton has every right to campaign as hard as he wants for his wife, and the other spouses have that same right. Swish it.
