The Bat Is Still Going Strong....

Since yesterday, we've gone up $300,000 and it looks like by the fundraising parties tonight, we'll break the goal set from last quarter!

8. But he cannot win. . .
I mean, look at all the historical reasons:

In 2002, he polled at just 2%. . . hey, wait a minute. . .

In 2003, he opposed the Iraq War, knocking him out of the mainstream! Hey, wait a minute. . .

In late 03 a new capable candidate entered the race who lavished praise in Bush's foreign policy and team and was annointed to crush him. . . Hey, wait a minute. . .

In Iowa, certain Democrats ran attack ads against Dean that were designed to knock him into the single digit %. . . hey, wait a minute. . .

Then during the holidays, his fundraising machine ground to a halt. . . hey, wait a minute. . . :)

The low expectations of the cynics and naysayers have been our best friends to date, and I expect that trend to continue all the way to 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue. :)

46. A Public Service Announcement
First, I again congratulate you on your fabulously successful efforts this quarter. Very, very impressive.

OK. Something really ugly is starting to be spread around some threads on DU during the late evening hours. An obvious Freeper is posing as a Clark Supporter and posting a politically obscene doctored picture of Dean, along with anti-Dean rants, all in the name of Clark. He has been pretty convincingly debunked on one thread, but initially both some Clark and Dean supporters were taken off guard and related to him as if he were actually supporting Clark. Clark supporters were dismayed, Dean supporters were insulted, and everyone was outraged.

The problem has been enhanced by the actions of at least one professed Dean supporter who has taken that hideous graphic and run with it, posting it onto other DU threads as an example of the actions of hateful Clark supporters. I will leave the link to the thread where the original problem surfaced (there may have been another early outbreak thread, I am not certain). It's all there. The problem poster, the angry reactions, the debunking, and even the efforts by one Dean backer to prolong this ugly divisive intrusion into our mutual ranks. I am not dwelling on the latter, I just mention it so you may stay alert for such claims and question them appropriately.

I won't come back to this thread again to discuss any of this. I suggest that further discussion on this topic, if any, might be moved over there. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=44401&mesg_id=44925&page=

50. Don't Forget to Ask Friends!
I got two more $31.10 contributions last night from non-attendees of the house parties, and they used their credit cards online.

Also, if you're planning a New Year's Eve countdown tonight, how about asking some friends to go to your PC or Mac and make an online contribution before the clock strikes 12?

See my signature if you'd like to send those dollars via the Pilots for Dean mini-bat to the Dean campaign. Thanks, everybody.

And hopefully I'll see some of you in Iowa. I'm going January 2nd to 4th and again 17th to 20th.

55. this reminds me of the 80's
Pat Robertson and other TV evangelists, obsessed with their fundraising, while losing sight of their alleged purpose. It was always moneymoneymoney, and damn the issues underneath. They took advantage of people's good will, and Dean supporters have fallen in line likewise, fetishizing the dollars and thinking that they "make a difference".

So what if Dean has raised this much? It hasn't bought him any support outside of his 20% base, paid for his gaffes, or made him any more credible in the arena.

It does make him look a bit like Jerry Lewis on Labor Day, plus or minus the painkillers.

YOU'VE GOT THE POWER!!! Well, no, you don't, but it's your money...

I don't think enough people here use the ignore thread feature enough. Seems like they have to post silly, negative comments when they would be better served just ignoring the threads altogether. It's OK. Sadly, some of these folks just don't have the (will) power.

Over 50,000 brand new people donated in this quarter. But we have no new support. Interesting.

58. I like your candidate,
but I don't think you are doing such a good job of representing him. Dean has huge grass roots support and it will take a lot of money to defeat Bush. Look at Dean's average contribution and I think you will see that it is not corporate sponsors that are filling his bats, like some candidates. I can hope that Dean will pave the way for people like Kucinich to be electable, but I don't think it will happen this time around.

72. 15.5 is what I predicted
sometime yesterday, or even the day before. I just felt it in my bones, or then again, maybe I just took a wild guess.

I would be happy to be proven wrong, though, and have it top out at 15.6 or higher.

77. I guess this is the place we're supposed to post our congratulations
Since this thread was so old, I'm not sure why, but I suppose this is where we celebrate the record breaking quarter?
