DU fickle and childish about politics
Bush labeled himself a "compassionate conservative" to moderate his image for the election. Not once did Bush say he opposed affirmative action in the debates, saying he supported "affirmative access."

Kerry wedges on calling himself a liberal. Kerry has expressed a vague support for fatih based initiatives, "voted for the war," and speaks of opposition to gay marriage, lately. etc...

If you wonder why all the above has occured you are ignorant about politics. Politicians moderate their views in order to be marketable to a larger group of people.

I use to be a Deanie, Clarkie, think Edwards has a good shot at the white house, adore Sharpton, and think the good congressman should have his department of peace.

Despite Dr. Dean's more conservative record he has been the darling of DU. Why? DU is fickle. Although Kerry has had a long and liberal record in the Senate he has moderated his votes and stated position in the past year. Are we to be surprised at this and harp about it? Are we new to politics?

2. its not that we are new to politics
its just many here would like to see a candidate that actually conforms to their ideals. Would like to see a candidte that's most likely to fight the hard fight and take a stand for things many of us see as very important if not outright necessary to the success of our country. Many of us no all to well how the political game goes and would like to see it change before it's too late.

Dean was an "outsider" and for many of us that's a sign that he will be less likely to cave in to the "bad" special interest groups.
He raised much money from independent voters and got people fired up about this election, hard not to like a guy who does that.

Fickle? perhaps, I know I don't agree with everyone on these boards and would love to chalk it up as them being looney or uninformed or maybe even fickle. I just wouldn't say we are uninformed or new to this arena

4. I think:
that the diverse opinions on here are great. This is what democracy is about. I do think we all (yes, myself included) need to be very careful not to insult or be insulted by different points of view. I also notice some material being posted by sources I believe are not on our side. But this is a beautiful site, and our wide range of view-points is a great strength. It is democracy. It is the old town meeting that defines healthy politics. I think that we are lucky to have different candidates that offer different avenues to a recovery for the disease of bush & co. I love Dean. I respect Clark. Dennis K is a kind and gentle soul that would be the most fun to sit and chat with. Rev. Al says things we know the other candidates believe, but opt not to say. If Kerry is trying to take on an image of "JFK," then Edwards may be the "RFK" that pushes us further than the mainstream would otherwise dare tread. This is a beautiful time, my friends! Do not allow the other side to make you DOUBT that! Push all doubt away! Work for the needed changes to reclaim this nation. MKL did not lie: we are reaching that promised land. Positive vibrations!

5. it's his support of ClearChannel Corporation that bothers me
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 10:17 AM by WhoCountsTheVotes
or his misrepresenting the Constitution as forbidding corporate regulation. Is he doing that to gain swing voters who LOVE multinational corporations? Please.

Most of us understand how politics works, and I'm not complaining that Kerry isn't going around saying "Love me I'm a liberal". But his Market Fundamentalism is the deal breaker, no thanks, if we wanted market fundies we'd vote GOP.
