Bill Clinton: You're Lucky If You Get My Support, Punk

"If (Barack Obama) wins this nomination, I’m going to do what I can to help him become president... After all the mean things they said about me, I can’t believe I’m saying this."

10. Pure bullshit on your part....President Clinton campaigned for John Kerry just WEEKS afte having
quadruple bypass surgery. When he campaigned with John Kerry in Philadelphia, he was still so week from surgery that they mapped a special way for him to get to the stage, without having to walk too much.

So you really need to do your homework before making such B.S. claims.

All three Clintons- Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea, campaigned for the Kerry/Edwards ticket. In fact, Chelsea Clinton gave her first political speech, while campaigning for Kerry/Edwards.

My main gripe with him is the shading of the truth with these attacks on my man. He did what he could for Kerry.

He went everywhere that Kerry asked him to go.

Not to mention that a book tour is considerably less straining and stressful than a campaign swing.

18. This part was left out...
***Clinton was responding to an audience member's question--well, more like a statement--about how "black America is voting for Obama" even though "America is not ready for a black president." "I hope you're wrong about that," Clinton said, adding that he thinks Hillary is the best candidate for reasons other than gender or race.***

Despite all the bickering and the competitiveness, I truly do believe Bill when he says he hopes the questioner is wrong.

And claimed that not one brings up race but the media. He claimed that race never comes up in any of his meetings with voters. It was the media that was bringing it up.

37. If you'd read the entire quote rather than the selective excerpt
you would have seen that he said, "after all the mean things they said . . ." to emphasize to his audience why they should believe that Obama deserves a fair shot. His comment was tantamount to saying, "If *I* still think this about him, despite what's been said about me, YOU definitely should give him a fair shot, as well."

It wasn't a whine at all - he was making a valid point and actually DEFENDING Obama against the claim that he's not electable because he's black.

It's not Clinton who's spinning the race angle - it's people who are either purposely mischaracterizing what he says or swallow and regurgitate the negative characterization by others without bothering to actually find out what he really said.

39. It's a shame that you wouldn't read what he actually said before saying he's "fulla shit" and lying
based upon what he supposedly said, but didn't.

I think if more people actually took the time to fact check the "information" upon which they're basing their opinions - not to mention verify its validity before posting and reposting it - we might have much less acrimony around here.

44. You accuse him of lying, but in repeating lies about him, you are being untruthful yourself
It doesn't do your argument any good to engage in the tactics you accuse others of doing - especially if the person you're accusing of lying is also the subject of the lies you're repeating.

Among other things, it makes your claim that he's lying less credible since it makes one wonder if you're basing that assessment on information as faulty as that on which you based your latest assertion.

Just sayin . . .

28. What Bill Clinton actually said - and in context;
At an event in Kingstree, SC, an African American man asked Clinton:

"You sound very polite talking about Obama. And I know we don't want anymore negative campaigning. But black America is voting for Obama simply because he is black. Obama is being elected by Republicans pretending to be Democrats, because they know that they are not ready to vote for a black president. So if Hillary loses now, a Republican is back in, and I don't care how bad they done.

"We do need Hillary back in, because she would be the president she would be the best candidate. And I would love to see a black president, not that he can't do a good job, but America still has racist problems and that is not going away. Let's hope that Hillary wins this election.

And Clinton responded as follows:

"As an American, I hope you are not right. Considering the comments the Obama camp has been making the last couple of days, I should be the last person to be defending them. If he wins this nomination, I am going to do what I can to help him win this election.

"I just believe Hillary would be a better president right now because she has a better record. I regret the acrimony in the past few days. I think we should be able to disagree with each other with being accused of the things we have been accused of. We are trying to set up an America where no one votes against you cause of race or gender."
. . .
"The reason I think Hillary is more electable is not race, it's this: If there is a security crisis somewhere between now and the election, the fact that Hillary" has served on the Senate Armed Services Committee and has visited more than 80 nations "will make it much harder for them to spook people by saying she can't handle a national security crisis."
. . .
"If they (conduct) one of their standard negative campaigns,I think it'll be easier for her to withstand it because she has so much scar tissue."

Still, he said twice in his remarks that all three Democratic candidates — Clinton, Obama and former Sen. John Edwards — could beat any Republican nominee in the current political climate.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_campaignplus/20080124/ap_ca/clinton_race_4

These comments hardly fit your "You're lucky if you get my support, Punk" characterization or the media's "Clinton attacking Obama on race" lies the media is spreading.

I'm sick of the spinning and lying on both sides - and in the media.

Interesting - the spinning and lies don't seem to be coming from the Clinton or Obama campaigns. But some of their supporters act like they've lost their damned minds.

And the media . . . well, what else can be said about them?

34. Thanks for that Effie
I'm as disgusted as anybody about Bill Clinton's shading of the truth about Obama and simply for using his much superior position to beat Obama down, and I sympathize with people enraged about the battering of their man -- my man, too -- but enough is enough. There's entirely too much schoolyard yelling at each other and at the candidates on this board. It's not necessary to get a point across.

should stratch their watches or wind their asses.....Bill has done exactly what they wanted to happen....the press and obama are concentrating on Bill so much that HRC goes on campaigning in other states and getting endorsements while obama is stuck in sc with Bill in his psyche.....

remember how the people responded to the press and all their negative reporting on Bill? Know what happened, they rewarded him with high approvals as high as 73% in 99 and the press lower then newt gingrich...Same thing different day...Bill is playing to those 2/5 states and what is happening is obama is coming off looking like a not ready for prime time with his OOPS.....
