I wonder what would be the reaction in the media and on DU if Bill Clinton said tomorrow:
"You got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."

I remember back when Joe Biden said these exact words and the media reaction and much of the reaction on DU when some African Americans objected to the comment, "Oh, please!!! How DARE anyone call Joe Biden a RACIST! Everyone knows he didn't mean anything racial. STOP PLAYING THE RACE CARD!!!"

I have a feeling that, if Bill Clinton said the exact same thing tomorrow, the reaction by the media and DUers would be considerably different than their reaction was when Joe Biden said it.

2. Joe Biden was roasted here and in the media for saying it.
You must watch different channels than I do.

3. There was a HUGE flap that followed Biden around after that statement. It
wouldn't die.

And the thing is, Biden WASN'T playing the race card.

5. But if you go back and look at the coverage, it focused more on whether the people criticizing
Biden were wrong for criticizing him and whether they were "playing the race card," than about whether Biden himself was purposely playing the race card. And even when Biden was criticized, it was primarily for not being more careful about what he said, not for saying anything racist.

And on DU, the dynamic was virtually the same, with much of the criticism being directed at those who criticized Biden for being insensitive.

4. It would be split
Just like it was then, just might not be split in quite the same way.
