Bloomberg better take a long look at this data before he wastes his money.

The graphs dating back to 92, when perot, ran are especially revealing.

1. Don't be so sure. In 92, Bush Sr was running for re-election
Today, it is still a tossup as no one knows who the alternatives are going to be.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ron Paul put in an indy bid.

2. Ron Paul should put in an independent bid as a strategic move for his goals....
He would get a good share of the independent (I can't stand politics as usual) crowd and people would likely continue to finance and vehemently support him.

6. He was interviewed after one of the debates I watched (SC?) and they asked him about that
he said that it was because he has had like 10 terms or some such as a seated (R) Congressman and when he did try with an Libertarian POTUS run (don't remember when -- 1990s?), he didn't even make a blip on the radar, so ran as a (R) to at least get invited to the debates.

Sorry -- I wasn't paying too terribly close attention. Kinda just listening to the yammering in the background.

3. The question only asks if there is someone running who they like.
What happens when their candidate doesn't get the nod? Some on here have said they would support Bloomberg if their candidate doesn't get the Dem nom.

4. 3rd party candidates don't do well in modern American elections
Bloomberg might be a spoiler at best, but I doubt he would carry even one state. 2008 is nothing like 1992.

7. He doesn't have to carry anything. Remember 2000?

And yes -- I looked this up to post it. :D

Florida:
Bush -- 2,911,872
Gore -- 2,910,942
Nader -- 97,419

Florida Electorate:
Bush -- 25
Gore -- 0

National outcome:
Bush -- 50,460,110
Gore -- 51,003,926
Nader -- 2,883,105

National Electorate:
Bush -- 271
Gore -- 266

All a third pary needs to do is hound ONE state. Bloomberg in New York may be all it takes. (NY has 33 electoral votes)

8. I didn't realize Nader got that many votes
Whether true or not, Nader had the image of a very left-leaning candidate. I wonder how a more moderate populist candidate would do, especially one with expertise in economics, someone for example who would promote bringing manufacturing jobs back to America like a reincarnated Perot might do.
