More praise for Obama's economic plan over Hillary's, coming from the Economist.
So far, the only politicians to weigh in with detailed plans are people who cannot enact them this year: presidential candidates. Some are reasonably sensible. Barack Obama, for instance, wants everyone to get a $250 tax cut, which would double if economic indicators continue to worsen. Others look more like a fiscal Christmas tree. Hillary Clinton wants a $70 billion package: $30 billion in housing assistance, $25 billion in home-energy subsidies, $10 billion on expanding payments to the unemployed and $5 billion for environmental projects. The Republican presidential candidates want to make Mr Bush's tax cuts permanent—an odd priority just now since they don't expire until 2010.

It seems that Obama is becoming the candidate of sensible solutions to the issues.

4. It calls his "sensible," which it then contrasts with Clinton's "christmas tree."

3. imho, the Clinton plan (and Edwards) use of targeted
funds is what we need. Not across the board tax rebates that will make no difference going to folks that don't need it.

6. I don't mean to sound ungrateful --
but a $250 - $500 tax cut just doesn't do much.

We need to get JOBS back, and we need to pay FAIR WAGES, and the cost of EVERYTHING needs to come down.

I don't know how that will happen, but I can't get excited about anybody's economic plan.

People are sleeping in the cold TONIGHT.

8. We do, and those are under the purview of larger economic policy.
The point of a stimulus package is to boost consumer confidence and get people into the habit of spending again; we're trying to avoid everyone deciding to stop buying and stop investing, which would lead to a rapid deepening of the recession.

7. Not to flamebait, but most of Obama's Policies will get
more approval rrom the Right (Economist-Coservative) than
Edwards or Clintons.

For example, when Obama does not mandate Health Insurance,
this is the GOP position. Of course, Some Dems will agree--
especially Conservative Dems.
