Kucinich Rolls Through L.A. Area

In a race for Tuesday's primary, the longshot Democratic candidate talks to small crowds in diverse spots, from a union local to a mosque.

By Susannah Rosenblatt, Times Staff Writer

Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, fresh from an unexpectedly strong second-place finish in Hawaii's caucuses, campaigned through the Los Angeles area Saturday, hoping to win some votes in California's primary Tuesday.

The Ohio congressman brought his message to a South Central community garden, an immigrant rights rally and a local mosque as he addressed issues of particular importance in California — such as immigration and the effect of the North American Free Trade Agreement on U.S. and Mexican workers.

"I really want his message to get out to the Muslim-American community," said Nausheen Hassan, 27, of Arcadia, who helped organize Kucinich's visit to the mosque. "People who are driven by faith, they will find that his message will really resonate with them…. Once Muslims find out about him, they'll be so pleased to see a candidate that actually agrees with their views."

The candidate wrapped up his Southland campaigning with a Beverly Hills fundraiser featuring Sean Penn and other actors. The event was expected to bring in $40,000, a campaign spokesperson said.

1. "hoping to win some votes"
They just never let up, do they! Since he's only hoping for 'some' votes, that must mean the default is no votes at all. The reporter obviously must have seen all the bewildered faces as people ask one another 'Who's that guy, and how did we all get here? I was on my way to the laundramat! What happened?!?'

2. No, they rarely ever do
Mindblowing that the same people who screamed 'BIAS!' over the WMD lies are now of the opinion that journalists and media are suddenly fair.

6. After LA Dennis went to San Diego
He spoke at the Kroc Center for Peace and Justice in a non political speech. The center was totally full and a couple more hundered people in the overflow room..Listening to the students was interesting. Many were uncommited before, but not after his speech
We attended a house party afterwards. Raised almost $20.000. Dennis looked so tired. Yet his presentation at the Kroc center was outstanding. Showed the breath of his understanding of the world..
Listening to students, would hear them compliment him on his insights.
We found out later there was a student ballot after the debate up in LA...Dennis got over 50% of the student vote.

7. Great news!
Thanks for posting this!

Sorry Dennis seems overtired. I'm not surprised considering he bothers to DO HIS JOB in addition to campaigning. :)

Dennis is simply the BEST.
