The Debate Was A Fucking Train Wreck
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 01:42 AM by Steely_Dan
I understand that primaries are supposed to be contentious, but this was rediculous. You can bet your last dollar that the Republicans are taking notes. I'm embarrassed for our party. This is what happens when you try and make Presidential history during a time of national crisis. We don't have time for this.

-P

On Edit: I was speaking about the two front-runners.

8. Exactly
The debate this evening illustrated the range and vitality of ideas on the part of the Democratic slate.

The Republicans have done little more than repeat tired supply-side mantras, argue over who is more closely tied to the teat of Reagan's legacy and beat each other up on religious affiliation.

I'd have to hold my nose a bit to vote for Hillary - especially in light of the fact it would mean a Bush or Clinton in the presidency since 1988 - but Edwards, Obama or Clinton are all far better for our country than any of the pubs.

Debate on! We'll win in '08.

3. It gets better, if you're just tuning in
This is just a little dust-up that had to be done. They get to some real issues in a few minutes if you didn't see it earlier.

9. Yup. All it has done is created unrest and made the candidates
look foolish. However win the ticket will get slaughtered come Nov.

14. It was a debate, not a High Tea!
I'm so sick of the press and others---furthering the
ridiculous notion that vigorous, spirited debate is
somehow and out-of-control situation that we must
all condemn.

We're talking about the future of this county, and
we're debating the differences between the candidates.

This was the best debate, thus far. They all seemed to
show their true colors and speak with "the gloves off".

Frankly, I was sick of the soundbytes, and the last debate,
that seemed more like a coffee clatch. If I want to watch
a bunch of people sit around discussing this and that...and
making nicey nice--I'll watch "The View".

15. Yes,
"This is what happens when you try and make Presidential history during a time of national crisis. We don't have time for this."

I feel the same way, I think we all do actually. The problem is we're aplit about half and half on who should be the nominee. Well actually, I'm sure it's a 3-way tie, but many agree now that Edwards won't be the nominee but will have a high cabinet position, if the dems win of course. Of course they will win.

Also, Hillary I think has been planning on this for some time, and she could not have known the state the country would be in, and she's not getting any younger!

18. Edwards is running for President, not the Cabinet.
and he showed tonight that he's in this for the long haul, as he should be. He showed this
both with his intellegent, spirited and compelling presence during the debate and with his stunning
and timely endorsement letter from MLKIII here:

Edwards cannot be written off just yet.

19. I thought that the candidates really showcased their strong points,
their programs and the differences in their programs. Obama and Clinton continued feuds they have been having. But that is natural. They are the front-runners. Edwards was by far the best. He showed a relaxed, natural humility. (I saw him at close range last week, and he really is that way.) He acknowledged the good policies of his opponents as well as his own. I thought Hillary was a bit surprised looking when Edwards acknowledged that her plan covers all Americans.
