Watching the foodfight on cnn tonight, I lost respect for Hillary,
and gained even more respect for John Edwards.

What I want to know is, which prejudice is stronger in our country, racism or sexism?

1. I'm with you. Obama showed he's not going to be bullied, and Edwards
showed America what a great candidate he is.

4. They sure did!
I am looking in my own heart, and truly, Hillary's gender isn't any problem for me, it's the brittleness, the shrillness, the one dimensional character that screams GE flop to me. I pray it is not so and of course if she's the nom, God forbid, I'll choke it down, just like I did for Kerry in 04.

Her energy is so blistering, I can not imagine anyone out there feeling like she is going to lead them anywhere good when things get hard.

3. Tonight was the first time I felt real animosity toward Hillary
She reminded me of Chris Wallace when he interviewed Bill Clinton. It was so obvious she and Bill had been playing dirty politics then Obama pulled the curtain back on their little tag team of Bill lying and then Hillary saying "I didn't say that." No, your husband made that lie for you. It was very disturbing for me to see that side of Hillary. Obama was clearly disgusted at how low they had gone and you could tell he was trying to keep in control but he really wanted to tell her and Bill they were disgusting and had learned well from Karl.

8. I used to only dislike their policies
this campaign has made me dislike them personally. When they made up that stuff about the Iowa students voting was when I knew we were in for some ugly goings-on. I can only hope most Democrats see this before it's too late.

12. It saddens me to see people in our party doing this
I guess I was naive to think Democrats weren't capable of playing dirty like Bush and Rove. I literally feel sick to my stomach about this. It makes me lose hope that people are good.

15. Thanks for the positive attitude
:pals: I needed that.

I do think both Obama and Edwards and most of the other candidates are good, even Hillary. I am just at a loss as to why the Clinton's feel like they have to play so dirty to win?

10. sexism. look at who's in poverty
not to say that the incarceration numbers aren't horrendous, they are.
But why do old women deserve poverty, they did nothing wrong.

16. I disgree. Racial profiling still occurs. Black women and men
make less than White women and men. Minorities still do bad in terms of education. Blacks do not get the same loan rates as white people. Black and Brown men are incarcerated at high numbers compared to white men. Racism is still the biggest problem in America. Sexism is a problem but not as big as racism. Did you see today the KKK had a little march down south? Racism is and will always be a bigger issue than Sexism. I'm saying that as a black woman.

17. I forget what study I read that showed that white people
were overwhelmingly certain that racism was a thing of the past, and black people were equally overwhelmingly sure that racism is very present today.

Can't imagine those results proving you wrong.

I wonder, and forgive me please but I don't know how to say this gracefully, but I didn't see every moment of the debate, as I was listening sometimes. I caught a bunch of shots of Hillary from behind. Did they show Edwards or Obama's backside too, or just Clinton? Needless to say I guess, the shot was less than flattering.

Aloha.

7. Edwards didn't throw red meat
and everybody loved him. That should tell people something about what has been wrong with his campaign.

11. I imagine it reinforced everyone's existing views, because everyone was turned up to "max"
Everything good and bad about Hillary was exaggerated. Not pretty to see against a Dem, but she's auditioning to run against a Republican.

Edwards was less exaggerated, and looked good by comparison to the circus, but was very much Edwards. (And really lit into Obama for the first time... was that planned, or did he just see an opening when Hillary piled on?)

Obama came off well, as he always does, but his fightin' Barack persona lacks magic. It's just a solid politician with a sense of moral gravitas. But I can see it would have been a cathartic performance for people who really like him and are frustrated by all the attacks.

He didn't defend very well at all, not because he cannot, but because be cannot allow himself to seem nasty, and nasty was kind of called for. That's his double standard burden. Hillary isn't allowed to be soft and Barack isn't allowed to be mad. But since soft works for Hillary in small doses, maybe mad will work for Barack in small doses.
