Anyone Here Who Plans to Vote for Edwards in Their Primary
Please consider this (I cross-posted this in GD, but they're pulling the primary threads over there soon, so forgive me this one dupe, please)

Please consider finding your local Edwards campaign HQs and volunteer for him before your primary.

You can get a list of voters from your Democratic office HQs, from Edwards' campaign offices if your city has one, or even your Registrar's office -- it's public info. Enter your zip here and see if he has a group or office near you: http://blog.johnedwards.com/onecorps

Call people and ask them to vote for Edwards. Call your friends and family and do the same. Tell them it is too soon for the corporate media to choose our candidate for us.

Write a short script out that touches on why YOU support him -- tell voters you feel so strongly that you decided to volunteer.

If you're not comfortable calling, then you can do other things, like drop literature at door steps, drive people to the polls, bring food to other volunteers, offer to put up signs, etc.

I really encourage this and wish I had started earlier with the Edwards folks here where I live -- I mentioned this in another thread -- but I had to stop volunteering back in early fall when I started a new job.

I'm serious folks. Edwards needs help and he needs volunteers.

1. Emit, I've signed up to work on his campaign here in Virginia, and haven't heard anything back
Did it through the campaign website. Who's the state campaign coordinator here in The Old Dominion?

3. I don't know but I'll do my best to find out
Where abouts in Virginia are you? -- you can pm me if you want.

My guess is he doesn't have enough volunteers to even get back to people. In '04 -- we had people calling for signs to be delivered and we couldn't keep up with simple demands and requests. He needs more people in the field. His grassroots is hurting and needs to take it off line and into the streets.

If there's anyway we can get in touch with folks on the ground, we can help faster and more effectively.

Is this where you signed up?

2. I would love to work in his campaign in California.
Thanks for the heads up. If John Edwards is going to make a difference, I think it is really important we get out there and support him.

4. I got my early ballot today and am considering between him and Obama.
The problem is I'm so disgusted with the Clintons right now I can't see straight. On the issues, Edwards is way closer to where I stand. But I just want to send Billary and their whole tiresome entitled-acting entourage packing and I know that an Obama vote would do more toward that end. But he's pro-nuclear and I have SERIOUS problems with that.

I have until Feb. 5 to make my decision.

There is no Edwards HQ in my area and I'm way too busy with my job to start one. There are a few random supporters that I know of but that's about it.

Aaargh!!!

9. I know! But I don't want to throw my vote away either.
Edwards is barely registering in my state, while Hil and Barack are within shouting distance. I'm pretty involved in local politics and Clinton is supported by the moldy old-guard power brokers. They are chicken-shit fossils who cave in to the repukes at every turn. Our Governor (Janet Napolitano) endorsed Obama, which was really surprising to me and caused quite a lot of consternation amongst them. It caused me to give him a second look and I like a lot of what I see. Except for the nukes and the other corporate pandering, dammit!

But I just don't want the goddamn Clintons back! I'm afraid my vote for Edwards will only help them.

Maybe if John could miraculously win SC.....

17. I agree with AdHocSolver - He or she makes a very important point: Delegates
See post 13

It's about gaining delegates at this point. Your logic might be better applied to the General Election, but, in the primaries, it's about getting delegates. Stick with Edwards, and encourage all your friends and family to do the same. Why throw your vote toward the two who have the most delegates this early in the game anyway? Edwards needs your vote. Obama and Clinton do not. Your vote isn't enough to really help Obama -- or hurt Clinton.

But your vote and any more you can get for Edwards might help to keep Edwards in the game a little longer or even for the long haul.

19. Good point.
And also Markos Moulitsas had a compelling argument why people shouldn't assume that Edwards dropping out helps Obama. It may actually help Clinton more. Okay, so now I can vote for John in good conscience. :woohoo:

I'm talking from years of experience working on campaigns and talking to voters. We got some racists in this here party, that's for sure.

That's not where Edwards' current support comes from.

I just said most of John's support isn't from the mushy middle or the right, which is where most racists fall.

6. Obama is pro-coal and pro-E85 too.
Coal is bad for the environment and global warming, and E-85 is creating food shortages here and particularly in poor nations. Obama is receiving a ton of money from lobbyists representing nuclear, coal and E-85.

7. With all due respect,
Senators Clinton and Obama are NOT the only two Democrats in the running.

Please give serious thought to Edwards. He's been vastly ignored and overlooked, and does not deserve that.

13. Your vote for Edwards to give him delegates will do more good for your cause, than a vote for Obama.
The old-guard and the DLC support Clinton. Obama could fall behind in delegates. Clinton could experience a backlash. In the South Carolina debate, some of her responses received boos from the audience. She does NOT have a lock on the nomination. Many Democrats don't like her any more than independents and Republicans dislike her.

Clinton is backed by the DLC and there is an opposing Democratic block that dislikes Clinton and is supporting Obama.
The campaign has been largely a battle between these two camps. Neither wants to talk policy issues. They want to duke it out only on personality issues. This is why they are marginalizing Edwards. He brings up the policy issues and distracts the voters from the popularity contest.

However, there are a lot of uncommitted delegates. If the discord between Clinton and Obama continues all the way to the convention, the Democrats may yet wake up to the fact that Edwards is our best candidate in the general election. Vote for Edwards. He needs delegates to have clout at the convention. Your vote for Edwards will count more than a vote for Obama or Clinton. Your vote for Edwards will NOT be wasted.
