Cleveland Free Times: Why Everybody (sorta) Loves Dennis

http://www.freetimes.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article...

“To me, polls don't mean anything,” says Cheryl Blevins, 47, of Cleveland, a full-time office manager for the Center for Integrated Therapies, who volunteers what time she has to the Kucinich campaign. “I believe in Dennis and I believe in what he wants in this country, and I believe he will fight for me and he will fight for our neighbors.”

While State Rep. Dale Miller (D-Cleveland), Kucinich's Ohio coordinator, deftly avoids answering whether he thinks the congressman should pull out of the race, he points out that Kucinich has different ideas than the rest of the candidates — namely, he is against the Iraq war and in favor of free health care.

“Dennis is offering a set of policy changes that I support and none of the other candidates are offering,” says Miller, “so for me, why would I be any place else?”

Blevins says, “I think by voting for him, you're sending a message to the other candidates that these are the issues that concern us. It's sending a clear message that things need to change, and I don't see it as wasting my vote at all.”

1. Great article, great candidate.
I have never been as certain and unambivilant about a candidate as I am about Dennis Kucinich.
He is so articulate, so steadfast, and so on-target with the issues that matter to me.

Go Dennis, GO!

2. hometown supporters...shows you what his base is.
what made that article good was how it illustrated is "just folks" hometown base.

Some like to portrary Kucinich as a bit of this 'out-of-touch" new age zany, but if you know Cleveland and the neighborhoods he came from and now represents in Congress you will know he is from a blue-collar, middle America place, so he's really more in touch than one would think w. the needs and aspirations of regular folks. Thats one reason Im voting for him.

'Nobody loves him but the people'.

6. Yup, if DU still exists in 10 years
It'll be interesting to see if those who are today sneering at Dennis here, start seeing his wisdom.

As Will PItt said, in 10 years, the ideas that Dennis is proposing today will be mainstream, and we'll be saying "Why weren't we doing that 10 years ago?"

His supporters see that, and so do the people in Ohio he serves.

Why wait 10 years?

4. Utterly inspirational!
Thanks so much for posting this!

On his recent Cleveland campaign swing, Kucinich made nearly a dozen small meet-and-greet appearances. At one late-evening city ward club meeting, one older lady whispered excitedly to another other, “Kucinich is here, Kucinich is here,” when she spotted him at the back of a crowded hallway.

That's just how I feel! When I was at Northrop last Saturday, the charge that went through the 2300 people there was absolutely ELECTRIC when Dennis walked onstage. I've never been to a revival meeting, but I imagine that there's something like the same kind of energy.

Paul Wellstone is the only politician about whom I've ever felt the level of excitement that I do with Dennis Kucinich. We lost Paul -- thank goodness we have Dennis! :loveya:

11. Ten for Kucinich (repost)
Ten for Kucinich
by tommi avicolli mecca, San Francisco Bay Guardian

HERE ARE 10 reasons to vote for U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich in the March Democratic presidential primary over the other contenders, no matter what the polls show or who's ahead of the game:

1. It's a primary, and therefore you don't have to feel as though you're throwing away your vote by supporting someone who may not ultimately end up in the race against Republican incumbent George W. Bush, the scary man most San Franciscans desperately want out of the White House.

2. Since it's a primary, you can listen to your conscience and not your practical side. What I keep hearing from folks is that Kucinich has no chance, and therefore everyone should jump on some other guy's bandwagon. Many of us find our consciences pushing us toward Kucinich. Listen to that voice. It's a wise little person who's tired of choosing the lesser of the evils. In Kucinich progressives have a presidential candidate we can believe in wholeheartedly. That's a rarity among Democratic Party candidates these days.

3. While he may not be perfect – what politician is? – Kucinich is better on the issues than the other candidates in the race. He has a proven track record that far surpasses the front-runners in the Democratic camp. For proof of this, go to www.kucinich.us .

4. Kucinich was one of the only members of Congress to consistently oppose the war budget and the two wars in the Middle East. He has been more outspoken and firm on his antiwar stance than almost anyone else in Washington, D.C. When he says he opposes war, you can count on it.

Although I'm not so sure that first sentence in #10 is particularily helpful. Works for me, of course (being an old hippie), but it kind of plays into the naysayer's hands at the same time.

Still, it's a great list. I really hope people will give it some thought.

Go Dennis!
