He may be the candidate I support, but
Obama really needs to speak out against the ad running in NV that's been put forth by a 527 supporting him. Of course, AFSCME has spent far more on Clinton's behalf in NV on ads and mailers attacking Obama, but Obama spoke out loudly in Iowa about 727s supporting Edwards doing what a 727 on his side is now doing.

I really hate the involvement of 727s in negative campaigning in the primaries.

Obama's campaign has responded but it really is a half assed response.

1. Don't hold your breath
These kind of groups exists solely so that campaigns can look all innocent when dirty ads are run and claim, "But we have no control over what they do!" You can bet your next paycheck that the groups running the dirty ads are receiving money from prominent, rich partisans, if not the campaigns themselves.

2. It's the racial subtext to that ad that bothers me the most
I wish he would at least say that wording was unfortunate and poorly chosen.

5. Me too
I think this particular ad is fair, in that these folks really have been unfairly attacked. But it has nothing to do with race because I don't think the elites in this country give a crap about race except to use it to divide. It would be helpful if he'd make that statement for sure.

3. It's not a 527
Unions have political committees that members pay into separate from regular union dues. I believe that ad is funded by a union political committee, not a 527. The ad is in the interest of its members as the lawsuit was a threat to its members. I hate 527s like the plague and in my opinion unions should sit out primaries where there is no anti-labor candidate. I'd rather see the money and energy go into the GD. However, this is not a 527 and I don't really give a shit anymore about negative ads since that horse has long left the barn and it wasn't Obama who let it out.

4. now, THIS is healthy-
You have an issue with your candidate- you don't ignore it, aren't trying to deny it- or twisting yourself into a knot trying to find an excuse or justification.

Instead, you've posted the issue, and your honest reactions.

We would all do well (I think) to take note.

The candidates aren't "Gods"- despite the way the media portrays them, or the way our society encourages us to respond, creating IDOLs of everything from talk show hosts, to athletes, to musicians, to inanimate objects.!

No candidate is or ever will be perfect.

If we claim that, we aren't being honest, or we have set our sites way too low.

I agree Cali- I don't like negative campaigns either. And I hope that Obama speaks out clearly against this. I prefer a candidate who doesn't need to tear the others down, in order to lift them self up. One who prefers to address their ideas, plans, -hopes, and demonstrates why we should trust they have what it takes to make those ideas reality.

thanks for you post-

peace~

6. I find the ad running on Spanish radio in NV very offensive
but I initially abstained from saying anything about Obama hoping that he would speak up and demand that the ad be removed. To me it just shows that he's the same as all the other politicians that emerged thanks to the Southside Chicago machine. Hypocrisy reins in his campaign as much as it does in everybody else's. He's no messiah, he's just another politician, the only difference is that his tactics are less known as he's the new kid on the block.

8. Whoever did that ad sounds plenty pissed.
I'd just stay out of it if I were him, or that rage may turn against him.
