"blacks who doubt Obama's ability to compete are guilty of "a slave mentality." "

Black Voters Split On Clinton, Obama

Joseph Lowery, former head of the Southern Christian Leadership Council, calls colleagues who are supporting Clinton "good old boys."

"The figureheads are not actually gatekeepers to the black vote," said William Jelani Cobb, a 38-year-old history professor at the historically black Spelman College.

"No disrespect, but they don't speak for us."

"At a speech Wednesday before the Hungry Club at the Butler Street YMCA in Atlanta, Lowery said blacks who doubt Obama's ability to compete are guilty of "a slave mentality."

"No matter how much education they have, they never graduated from the slave mentality," Lowery said.

And there is only one person who loses with that concept, it's Obama.

It's not about Obama spin. It's about something that you obviously have no interst in, a better understanding of the issue.

People have been talking about a slave mentality since slavery. I know this isn't of interest to you because you only interest in posting this thread is to continue to sow racial discord and, in effect, lessen support for Obama.

Does that mean the opposite is true? Are black leaders suggesting that we should vote "race" or "gender" rather than issues?

52. He is not suggesting that at all
He said, "blacks who doubt Obama's ability to compete are guilty of "a slave mentality."

That's so different than saying to vote for him because he is black.

One of the big issues that Obama has had to overcome by some black is whether white people would vote for him. A South Carolina legislator even said he is supporting Clinton because white people weren't going to vote for Obama. Some of those opinions were quieted with his win in Iowa.

That's not what he said and I am not trying to spin. He did not say if you are black and don't vote for Obama. Why do you keep this lie going. You may not feel those extra words are important but they are.

You just don't want to consider anything else. It's easier to think your way. This is so sad.

Again, you have no clue what slave mentality even means.

In no way am I suggested that only I have the knowledge to understand, I saying that YOU do not. Thats another example of you not paying attention. You also have too much pride to even consider that you may be missing something here.

Many black people didn't vote for Sharpton, Jessie Jackson or Carol Mosely Braun when they ran. Did anyone say they had a slave mentality?

Harry Bellafonte and Danny Glover are supporting John Edwards. Who is saying that they have a slave mentality? Bill Cosby is supporting Dennis Kucinich.

66. blacks who doubt Obama's ability to compete.....
What he's saying is that many blacks didn't support Obama initially is because they didn't think he could compete. One So. Carolina black legislator supported Clinton because he said white people weren't going to support a black candidate.

When Obama won Iowa many blacks saw that he could compete and his poll numbers among blacks increased.

America doesn't like to talk about race. My statement was in relation to those who search to find anything negative in an attempt to tear down another candidate.

It's really an interesting concept and would prove educational for many people. The problem is that many people hear race and get scared and defensive without any attempt to try and understand.

you're right, America doesn't want to talk about race, but neither does Obama, or so he said.

I'll tell how I think this attitude was abused. I heard that same ESPN guy on Hardball who talked about the Bradley effect after NH, blame Obama's debate performance on the same premise as Lowery. It's a concept that can be used for anything said about Obama.

41. I do think some of it could backfire
He's in such a precarious position. There were blacks who were wondering if he was black enough and whites wondering if he was going to be like some angry black activists. On top of this he has some blacks afraid that he might be assasinated and this paranoia has a basis in truth because he has as much Secret Service protection as the President.

Every issue regarding race will be magnified because of his candidacy. Many things are misinterpreted and people are going to run with the wrong impression.

I do hope they can get some balance regarding these issues and we can concentrate on the issues.

Obama's woman-bashing campaign song
by hwc, Mon Jan 14, 2008 at 11:50:29 AM EST

As Barack and Michele Obama took the stage for their victory rally in Iowa, the Obama campaign played the Jay-Z song 99 Problems.

The chorus of the Obama campaign song:

99 problems but the bitch aint one
If you're havin' girl problems i feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one
Hit me

Obama: It Took Men to Give Women the Vote
by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 36 Comments
(2008-01-14) — Democrat Sen. Barack Obama today seemed to indirectly respond to presidential rival Sen. Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that Martin Luther King’s dream would have gone unfulfilled if not for President Lyndon B. Johnson who signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Sen. Clinton’s comment was meant to contrast her vast record of accomplishment and political prowess, with Sen. Obama’s mere rhetorical skills and inspirational persona, but the rookie Senator offered an analogy of his own.

“The 19th Amendment to the Constitution grants women the right to vote,” said Sen. Obama, “and while women, like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, marched, and spoke and held inspirational rallies, ultimately it took men in 36 state legislatures to fulfill that dream.”

“Now, I would not suggest,” the former Illinois state legislator added, “that it takes a man to really make change in this country, nor even that it takes someone with experience in a state legislature. I’m just sayin’.”

well i'm just askin...are you a sexist obama?

32. There's nothing sexist in Obama's statement at all.
You're taking it completely out of context in order to interpret it that way. He's saying that Hillary's argument that it took a white man to give minorities civil rights is no more valid than saying that it took men to give women the vote. He's saying that in both cases, such an argument completely misses the point, and ignores the fact that the final legislative actions were forced by the massive uprising of public support, particularly among the beneficiaries of the legislation; public support that was nurtured and fueled by black and female activists, respectively. He's paying respect to feminists in history, and saying exactly the opposite of what you suggest.

from sources as varied as kos and Politico. Don't come here and spread this shit. You won't find a welcome reception. And thankfully that includes most of Clinton's supporters here.

It's been discussed ad nauseum here- just because YOU weren't here to see it, doesn't mean that we didn't hash it over. Obama came in to Stevie Wonder and left to U2- or visa versa. It's all on video.

This piece of scurrilous shit was posted on the gossip page of Murdoch's NY Post. NOT a reputable source.

Blacks Learning 'Goldwater Girl' Hillary Was AGAINST
the Civil Rights Act of 1964....Feel Deceived !

An article by Washington columnist Robert Novak (Google:
'Hillary, King, Goldwater) reveals that Hillary Clinton was a
staunch supporter of Sen. Barry Goldwater (who was adamently
against the civil rights act and a segregationist) during the
same period she claims in all black church appearances that
she was for the civil rights movement. Blacks feel that it was
impossible for Hillary to have been a Goldwater Girl and pro
civil rights at the same time which leads to the assumption
that Ms. Clinton is re-inventing her past. Many blacks feel
deceived by The Clintons. Should Hillary Clinton make a public
apology to blacks ?
