Obama and Ronald Reagan’s Slipping Halo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaoYD7iZG9w

..This is the kind of garbage that makes me detest Obama. Prior to listening, I merely disliked him.

No, Ronald Reagan didn't appeal to people's optimism, he appealed to their petty, small minded bigotry and selfishness. Jimmy Carter told people to tighten their energy belts and act for the good of the country; Ronald Reagan told them they could guzzle gas with impunity and do whatever the hell they wanted. He kicked off his 1980 campaign talking about "state's rights" in Philadelphia, Mississippi -- the site of the murder of three civil rights workers in 1964's Freedom Summer. He thus put up a welcome sign for "Reagan Democrats," peeling off white voters who were unhappy with the multi-ethnic coalition within the Democratic Party.

One of his first acts was to fire 11,000 air traffic controllers in 1981 -- one of the most devastating union busting moves of the past century. And his vision of deregulation didn't free the country up for entrepreneurship, it opened it up for the wholesale thievery of the savings & loan crisis. He popularized the notion that all government is bad government and in eight short years put in place the architecture for decades of GOP graft and corruption.

There's enough hagiography of Reagan on the right, I don't think Democrats really need to go there

I'm sorry. I want nothing to do with RWers or RW heros.. and by association, candidates who want to emulate them..

12. Speaking of which, exactly what did Obama do for
those affected by the Tsunami? ...Katrina? How much did HE raise? It appears that you are aware of what "Billary" did.

Furthermore, it was Hillary who invited Obama to go with her and Bill to New Orleans after Katrina.

"Wow. It's not news that Obama is targeting independent voters in his campaign, but he's now claiming that the Reagan/Bush administration was a better "agent for change" than the Clinton/Gore administration was."

6. Reagan destroyed the industry i worked in..the Airline Industry..
our unions might as well have been busted..we were put under different pay scales ..and safety was thrown out the door because we did not have union strength as we did prior to Reagan busting Patco..

I hate ..and despise the name Reagan...

and anyone who would prop him up to me ..is not a democrat.

9. He sure did..
When the Air Traffic Controllers were striking, he fired them, refusing to hire them back, a good friend of ours committed suicide. Republicans represent nothing but Misery and Death. What is astounding, the blinded Obama apologists are holding on tight because they've reached a dead end. They'll go down with the ship before admitting they made a huge mistake in judgment. Fine by me. No way do I feel obligated to let them take me with them.

11. there is no number of excuses that will make me not see Obama for what he said about Reagan..
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 12:11 AM by flyarm
i despise Reagan..i get sick to even type the name..he makes me physically ill!

he destroyed more American lives..he was corrupt..he was a horrible criminal..and when that mtf needed a union he had one..he ran one..and then went about destroying other americans ability to earn a decent living...and attacked the weakest among us..for his own greed and those of his corrupt cronies.

He put people's lives needlessly at risk in the industry i was in..and he didn't give one rats ass!

optimisim Obama says??..i say bullshit..the only people with optimism under Reagan were the most rich and elite in our society!

Reagan spit on those with mental illness..he spit on those of the middle class..the only people with optimism under Reagan were the damn crooks who stole this nations richness..in her people and her resources.

Reagan was a MTFing crook and bastard!

18. Hillary and John should just run ads like this

"Barack Obama, thinks he's the new Reagan, is the man to protect our union workers, to protect gay rights, to protect our rights full stop"

Would kill him stone dead in California and elsewhere.

7. Why didn't he say he admires the unifying ways of JFK OR any Democrat for that matter ?
I'm concerned that Obama did say, he was going to
include Republicans in his administration...
While Obama is, an inspiring, powerful and charismatic speaker,
He is also the protege of the best Senator, that the GOP ever had...
-neocon extraordinaire-Joe LIEberman-

After eight long years of oil companies, drug companies,
insurance companies, war profiteers and the corporate
media cheerleading all the way...

We don't need another pushover for the GOP!
-There's already plenty of Republicans at the table!
We don't need any more in our own party!
:dem: "I know why I'm a democrat now, I know why I'll be a Democrat when they put me
in the ground ...Because this party gives voice, to people who have no voice!
We need to stand up and fight for people we have always fought for,
who need us today, who have always needed us and need us now, more than ever!" John Edwards

32. FDR in the 1930's is the ideal and what we really NEED
He pulled this country together when we were in total economic collapse.
With his 'New deal' he put America back to work building our infrastructure,
pulled us out of the Great depression and made us proud for all we accomplished
thanks to his leadership-- To me he was the greatest president..

Obama is a corporate Democrat like Hillary. Obama said he would have Republicans
in his administration? How in the world will they change anything?

If Edwards is the next President of the United States.
He will take on out of control Corporations,
as did FDR.

Sadly, they want Edwards to disappear ...It's sickening!
John Edwards is not buy-able but HE is viable!
If Edwards gets his message out --
we'd see a landslide victory, in November!

"It is time for the president of the United States to ask Americans to be
Patriotic about something other than war" John Edwards-
-John Edwards lays out climate initiative http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mblXvODrEPs

John Edwards and his FDR type plans;
one day before he announced he would run: 'Tomorrow Begins Today'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1etlZaf6zUw

"What are we going to do for our children?
Are you willing to look your children in the eye tonight,
and say I'm going to turn this mess, over to you?"
Because if you turn your back, on the incompetence and the corruption
that exists in washington today-- that's exactly what you're saying!" John Edwards

at MSNBC debate; this video is my favorite- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x83052
This is why I'm voting for John Edwards.
We can hope for change all we want, but sometimes, HOPE, is not enough!

10. Reagan supporters were like the pod people in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".
No more idealism. Materialism reigned supreme. Instead of hippies, we got yuppies. I swear to you, when I saw the clip where he talked about Reagan, it gave me hives. And it made me doubt. That's all I can say. Unless you lived through it, maybe you can't really understand.

over Obama's love-in with Reagan is that Obama cleverly linked Clinton with Nixon. He's so smooth. Nixon/Clinton bad--Reagan wonderful.

24. Of course not.. Obama barely knows anything about US History..
Rove is his coach and mentor. Obama's entire campaign is choreographed and orchestrated by the Bush/Cheney's Team of side winding thugs.

Profile what Obama has done so far, who he's targeted as his prospective demographic. Still wondering why BOOMERS are not on his list of prospective voters? (answer: BOOMERS are the living history) Why he isn't afraid of disrespecting and insulting the GLBT Community? Why he will stop the research into a cure for AIDS...Why he's supremely interested in enlisting the youth of our country promoting and building HIS Kingdom on Earth (for the Evangelicals)

As far as, say, the Culinary Union's endorsement. The workers aren't aware of what happening to them, how they are being used as just so many bodies in numbers to bolster Obama's power to win Nevada. If I had any say, I'd have Hillary cast grave doubt in spanish speaking commercials as to Obama's intentions and promises using his endorsement of Reagan as Obama's model for the future of Union workers.

GO FOR IT HILLARY...Times a wasting, but there's still time to turn this foregone conclusion of an Obama win on it's ear.
Tell the Culinary workers Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing and will decimate their union once he has the power to do so! Just as Reagan did to the Airline Industry!

25. Thats right! Remember how they beat Kerry?
They went out to urban areas and hammered people over and over again to make sure they were going to the polls to vote. Volunteers showed up in neighborhood after neighborhood with shuttle buses to get them to the polls. They left no eligible voter alone until they had a commitment to get them to the polls. I watched the documentary where they made a fool out of Kerry's leaderless wish-washy campaign strategy. In key states, Kerry's campaign workers were sitting around drinking coffee. Volunteers were hanging around begging for work. The Kerry Team was clueless as to their work agenda or directing volunteers on getting out the vote.

Hopefuly, we've learned from Kerry's mistakes and won't be repeating the same foolish errors.
