Matthews repugnant comments finally get the national attention they deserve
NEW YORK - With protests rumbling, MSNBC's Chris Matthews said Thursday that he was wrong to say last week that the reason Hillary Clinton is a senator and a candidate for president "is that her husband messed around."

Matthews discussed those remarks at the opening of his show "Hardball" Thursday, the same day feminist leader Gloria Steinem and the heads of four prominent women's groups complained in a letter to his boss that Matthews had shown a pattern of sexism.

6. I don't think it was on his show
It was my understanding that he was on the "Morning Joe" show on MSNBC as a guest when he said that.

If you watch "Hardball" you would see that he has been giving Hillary free air time for years, he clearly supports her.

He did run his mouth and needed to apologize, I am glad he did.

BUT......

Hillary is a senator because she went district shopping with her husband's political machine. I can't say that she was voted into office because of the sympathy over the Monica affair. I can say that she is a senator because of her husband. Also I can say that she is a candidate for president because of her husband and his political lackeys.

9. Exactly ...
my mom was a woman who achieved everything on her own. She didn't ride anyones coattails to get ahead. Hillary's "rise" to power is an affront to every woman who did it on her own.

10. That is simply not true. Go to Mediamatters.org for extensive
documentation of his sexist attacks on Clinton and other women.

11. both the appology and the offensive statements can be found on
Talkingpointsmemo.com I had heard about his statements - but until seeing/hearing the clip - the magnitude of how dismissive and ugly his statements were didn't sink in. (Ala = I knew it was bad, but I did't know it was *that* bad). After one sees the clip of the statements he made denigrating Senator Clinton - the latter clip/appology rings very hollow.

12. Rachel played it on her show. Sounded pretty sleazy to me "I only offered sympathy
because her husband cheated on her" It's why I didn't post on it - it made me :puke:

16. MSNBC cancelled one of her appearances a few days ago...
... I wonder if it is because she hit Matthews too hard during the NH primary. She basically told him on the air that he personally was a big reason Hillary was getting a bounce with women. He didn't seem to find it funny at all.

14. He clearly shows no remorse. Throw the book at him.
Somebody forced Tweety to say he was sorry, but he really isn't. Instead, he lays his meanness at the feet of enthusiasm and attributes his hate speech to a desire for lively banter.

He never misses a chance to squawk about how good-hearted and sweet-natured and good-tasting he is. But anybody who has to call HIMSELF good-hearted, isn't so. It is only other people who can label you good-hearted, and AFAIAC, Tweety is a blackhearted bastard.

15. I caught his intro tonight
He was definitely feeling the pressure - seemed to be playing the "I get carried away because I love politics so much" card. I didn't buy it - he's got to control what he says or he's toast (not that I normally watch him - this was unusual for me.)

BTW, I love you sig pic - I am in the and/or category myself and that is a very warm photo. I wish the mood here was more like that lately!
