Poll question: How many people outraged with Kerry's position on gay marriage - a priori
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 12:18 PM by Mattforclark
How many people outraged with Kerry's position on gay marriage are enraged with it based on a priori knowledge, how many are enraged a posterei, and how many are not enraged?

http://www.iep.utm.edu/a/apriori.htm

"The terms “a priori” and “a posteriori” refer primarily to how or on what basis a proposition might be known. A proposition is knowable a priori if it is knowable independently of experience. A proposition is knowable a posteriori if it is knowable on the basis of experience. The a priori/a posteriori distinction is epistemological and should not be confused with the metaphysical distinction between the necessary and the contingent, nor the semantical or logical distinction between the analytic and the synthetic. Two aspects of the a priori/a posteriori distinction require clarification: the conception of experience on which the distinction turns; and the sense in which a priori knowledge is independent of such experience. The latter gives rise to important questions regarding the positive basis of a priori knowledge."

1. I'm gay, and I've always been outraged that
ANYONE says "gay marriage: no" for whatever reason "but civil unions: yes." (I don't understand the definition you posted.)

2. Are you outraged
independent of experience?

Are you outraged with experience?

Personally, I know I am outraged independent of experience, but experience tells me that Kerry's position is politically wise. So I would say that I am outraged a priori but not a posteriori.

Which is of course butchered, a loose use of terms, out of context, and so on.

7. Both -- I think.

I feel stupid, Matt. I don't know how to answer. Both, I think.

I agree, his and Edwards' position (for it's the same -- equal rights but no gay marriage <they seem to forget that separate but equal is unconsitutional but that's beside the point for now> ) is politically wise. And for the sake of getting * out of the White House I am willing to accept it.

What I won't accept is if, after one of them is elected president, they try to stand in the way of the current freight train. Only full equality will do.
