Graham, Nelson to back Kerry

U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, a potential running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket, and fellow Florida Sen. Bill Nelson are set to endorse U.S. Sen. John Kerry for president after the Super Tuesday primaries next week.
Democratic Party sources said Graham hopes to attend a rally in Tampa with the front-runner Tuesday night, when returns from 10 state primaries will be tallied. Polls indicate that Kerry, D-Mass., is likely to lengthen his lead in committed delegates nationwide, so he plans to be in Florida for an immediate launching of his campaign here.
There's a Senate floor vote in Washington on Tuesday, so it was uncertain Friday whether the Florida senators could get home in time for Kerry's rally. If not, aides said, Graham and Nelson will team up with Kerry for Florida campaign appearances later in the week before the March 9 Florida primary.
The endorsements would be important for Kerry because his only serious competitor, U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, is counting on the South to revive his hopes for the nomination. Florida is the second-biggest prize March 9, with 177 delegates at stake.
