JK needs to layout a comprehensive plan of how he'd strengthen the borders
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 05:44 AM by Bombtrack
I'm not one of those people who objects to "going to the center" in some of you're rhetoric and new ideas during a general election campaign. But in Kerry's immigration responses he's been vague in his answers about improving the illegal immigration problem. I'm a centrist on this issue and I would like to see less new people coming over illegally and using state healthcare systems and other entitlements that are meant for citizens, while simultaneously preventing Mexicans from being injured and dying in the desert and in the process of trying to come over the border.

And not just the Mexican border of course. Kerry(or Edwards, if he's nominated) should make it clear that the Canadian border probably is the bigger problem as it pertains to the international terrorism and organized crime.

But this is one issue where Kerry should lay out a detailed policy proposal that isn't just a pander-driven idea, but real solotion-driven.

1. If either of them wants to fight Shrub on protecting us from "terra"
why aren't they asking how many terrorists could sneak across the border. Rove is gearing up this massive "look what a great job Bush is doing on homeland security" campaign.

Ok, if thousands of illegal immigrants can cross the border every night - should I feel safer? Should I think the pResident is doing a good job?

2. I think they're smart to avoid it...
because the borders can't be "adequately" defended.

We already inspect cargo containers for spolied Indian shrimp and Ginseng, and we inspect small water and aircraft for illegal drugs. We inspect everything for illegal immigrants.

But, they still get through. All the time.

If we haven't been able to make that much of a dent in what we've been looking for for years, how are we going to add terrorists to the list and get them, too?

3. Actually they built some special gate or wall in San Diego I believe
that has totally worked in preventing crossings in that area. I forget where I heard about that.

We could also put the national guard on the border. Or maybe Kerry's idea for a youth service program. The point is that there's alot you can do

4. Sure. We could wall off the whole country. Don't let no one in or out ever
And not just the Mexican border of course. </Cough> That would certainly be the icing on the cake, now wouldn't it? Then we can change the name of the country to East Germany-West. What do you think comrade? That should take care of improving the illegal immigration problem and keep them nasty furiners out of here.

Don

5. Can't patrol every entry point...
'specially the waterways.

Getting the poor people sneaking in is relatively easy, even though they can't get all of them.

The bomb in a shipping container scenario is a bit more problematical. As is the small boat travelling up Delaware or Chesapeake Bay. Or Long Island Sound. Or Grand Cayman to Florida.
